NYFW: Beauty Trends and Our Must Haves

The weather outside was frightful, the runways were so delightful and the beauty was varied at NYFW F/W 15. Offering its fare share of daring and outrageous looks, from Alexander Wang‘s urban warrior to Jeremy Scott‘s colorful ode to the well-loved doll, we were also given yin to titillating yang in the form of wearable looks we can’t wait to show at the office, dates with our beau(x) and beyond.

Berry, Berry Quite Contrary: Look forward to searching for that perfect shade of berry-stained color for your lips a la Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs and Marchesa. While makeup artists were privy to shades that aren’t in stores yet, you can pick up one of our shoppable favorites. Carolina’s girls were all about perfect application, so be sure to buy lip liner that matches your chosen shade, and line your outermost lip line with concealer for a more defined pout. Try Nars Audacious Lipstick in shade Fanny.

Marchesa’s and Marc’s models were on the dark end of the berry scale, with looks that appeared more stained than painstakingly applied. Your best bet to re-creating the look is to use your pinky fingertip to apply color directly to your lips. We love Ilia’s Femme Fatale.

Starry Eyed: Rodarte, Tadashi Shoji and Reem Acra gave us reason to add a little sparkle to our gaze via lower lids rimmed with rhinestones, glitter and metallic shadow. The easiest-to-acheive look can be done by adding a few drops of water to metallic shadow already in your makeup arsenal to get the same painted-on effect we saw on Acra’s runway. For an even truer look try Sephora Pantone Universe Precious Metal Mousse Shadow in Gold.

In the Buff: We couldn’t overlook the subtle natural beauty displayed by our classic American sportswear masters, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors. The best part: you most likely have all the elements required. The name of the game here is to keep your skin in tip-top shape with your favorite moisturizer; apply a warm-toned blush and fill in your brows to bring focus to your fresh-faced look. Use subtle shadows and liners in earth-tone shades to emphasize your eyes but stay clear of multiple coats of mascara. A nude or peachy-toned gloss finishes the look. A couple of suggestions in case you’re in the market: Laura Mercier Lip Glace in Nectar, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Captivating
