Runway Report: Bottega Veneta Fall 2015

For Fall 2015 Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director Tomas Maier departed from the brand’s typical sophisticated and simple feminine aesthetic and embraced the eclecticism of 1960s and ‘70s fashion. Bold-hued and occasionally holographic polka dots dominated the looks, splayed across narrowly cut jackets, flared trousers, airy blouses and neckties.

The most exciting, as well as the biggest difference between this collection and Maier’s past work, was his use of unconventional materials. Lurex, sparkled knits, crocodile leather and clear plastic were used for everything from sweater vests and jumpsuits, to knee-grazing skirts and preppy collared dresses. The combination of synthetic fabrics and geometric motifs was reminiscent of something iconic Spanish designer Paco Rabanne, would have created in the 1960s. Color-blocked A-line dresses and painterly patterned capes and coats added to the collection’s retro vibe, while the same piece’s bold shoulders gave a nod to the 80’s power suit.
