Runway Report: Elie Saab

Elie Saab is a champion at what he does – transforming the world into princesses, one utterly stunning gown at a time. If you’ve ever dreamt of living the Happily Ever After life from the childhood fairytales you cherish, brace yourself to be swept away by the talent’s latest couture collection.

Similar to every creation designed by Elie Saab, the runway on Wednesday was a burst of magic. Models strutted their way to Nirvana’s ‘Come As You Are’ booming in the background, while a generous offering of gold (no doubt, the colour of the season for Saab) dazzled for the most part of the show – highlights including elongated gold capes lightly hanging from embroidered and Byzantine-patterned gold gowns, complemented with models’ golden tiaras and softly waved hair. Plentiful and overdone? Some may think so, but what really made the difference was Saab’s renowned, delicate touches.

Every so often, there were breaks from the dominating gold with subtler shades of blue, green and pink – of course, all as opulent and beautifully designed as the next – before things took a steer towards the more exuberant: oxblood and black gowns with puffier and far more exaggerated skirts. And for the finale look – we’ll let that glistening beauty speak for itself.
