Runway Report: MSGM Fall 2015

If a walk through the Museum of Modern Art were translated into a fashion collection, it would likely resemble Massimo Giorgetti’s vision for MSGM FW15. With vibrant color blocking, modular accessories, sculptural add-ons, and textural lace detailing that seemed drawn up on a spirograph, the show nodded to many of the modern movements, remixing them in a way that was playful and contemporary.

Oranges, blues, pinks and yellows popped throughout the collection in attention-grabbing combinations that challenged the rules of the color wheel. Immaculately tailored, clean lined pieces were embellished with ruched hearts and ruffles, and chevron stripes added juxtaposing moments of sporty flare. Looks were accessorized with geometry-inspired hanging earrings and pins.

Patchworking was everywhere, from oversized scarves, to abstract fur coats, and pop-art inspired toe-capped pumps and ankle boots. Giorgetti played with proportions, pairing over-the knee-boots with cropped pants and mod mini skirts, and over-the-elbow gloves with sleeveless coats. Turtleneck collars were consistent throughout, sometimes layered, and others becoming an accessory accented bare collar bones.

A few weeks into the worldwide whirlwind of fashion month, MSGM felt fresh and fashion forward.
