Trending At Spring 2013: Shoes

- By Nausheen Shah -

Platforms may come and go, but heels will never hurt me. Spring/Summer 2013’s hottest runway trends starting with metallics and following through to prints have also managed to translate into next season’s collection of must have footwear.

Metallics are in full swing for the upcoming Spring covering any part of our pointy-toe gems down south. Balmain has claimed the heel and Dior tagged the toe, but it’s Burberry’s vibrant mineral hues that have drenched the entire pump.

If chains and whips excite you, opt for the old ball and chain. Rick Owens and Victor & Rolf have continued the metal obsession into forms of wearable art with Diane von Furstenberg taking it into the contemporary market.

Otherwise, hop onto the other side of the spectrum with colorfully painted pythons and the widespread print epidemic. Alexandre Birman and Tabitha Simmons have cured our ophiophobia while Peter Pilotto and Mary Katrantzou have found another media for their signature prints.

In the mix of these upcoming trends, one thing is for sure. We are saying ‘Au Revoir’ to the platform and welcoming back elegance. So ladies out with the old and in with the nouveau. Platforms are so yesterday.
