Dear Santa Clause,

Each year I ask the children to write Dear Santa letters. I ask them to say what they are hoping Santa brings them, and how this year has gone. Have they been good or naughty? And lastly I instruct them to ask Santa any questions if they want. The younger children need some guidance to do this. This is a tradition that we've done since Sunny was able to express herself. Golly that would make this tradition almost 2 decades old! (another crappy reminder how old I'm getting!) And this is also the first year she hasn't participated cause we decided she graduated out of doing it. But I do love that we've kept up the tradition for the older kiddos too. This year because the season was so crazy busy with the dentist and all, I didn't get to it till Christmas Eve! So I know this is late in coming, but I couldn't resist sharing 'cause kiddos say the funniest things. But I was without the innermet a couple days cause it is a cabin after all.
So here's a look into the minds of the Crazy kiddos.

Letters to Santa 2014
Mimi (age 4) I love you, Santa.
That is a lot of presents you got! I wish you would come to our house to get us presents. Can you come to Cabin in the Woods to get the presents to us? I want you to bring me a dress, like a Halloween dress with a cape on it and something on the front and lots of sparkly on it too. I was being good so I can get presents. Then if you are mean you don’t get presents. I love you, Santa. You are so handsome, Santa! I wish you will give us super super super a lot of presents in our stockings. And I will be good! One time I was hungry, and we were going outside to play, and I was naughty because I wanted more to eat and I was crying. And I was super mean. And you are super super handsome! I wish you would come to the cabin and not to the other house because we are not at the other house. We are at the cabin. Thank you for giving us presents! That’s it. Good bye, Santa. Love, Mimi
Tess (age 7) Dear Santa, I was doing kinda good today, but kinda bad and good, both the whole year. I don’t think I’m good all year. But I’m good sometimes too like when at Halloween I was nice to people when I decided to help people and say hi to them. Santa Clause, how are your reindeer? Were they all fed? Maybe you should be a good guy too! I want you to be good. I don’t know it you are good or not. Do you know, Santa, I should be good every day, but I am not really feeling good every day. Some days I feel grouchy or something, and then I get mad at Jude or Boo or something. But I don’t don’t know why. It’s just a part of life. Well, Santa, do you know that for Christmas I really want my favorite thing which is another ninja suit. I want another one because my other one got broke when Boo was tying it very hard and the arm fell off. So I need a new one. And an action figure ninja. And a bow and arrow. And a bow, they kind you tie in your hair with pink on it. And a ninja mask. That’s it, Santa. Good bye. Tess
Jude (age 7) Dear Santa Clause, I hope I get a remote control car. Also I want a friend for Conrad and clothes for that friend too so he won’t be nervous if he’d be naked. I want firewood for our fireplace in case Mommy or Daddy makes a fire, and we could roast marshmallows and stay cozy by the fire. Was I naughty this year, or am I on the good list? Was I good on this year or not? I think I was good this year because I helped people. I helped my mom make sandwiches with carrots and tomatoes. I also let Mimi sit it my seat when we made a ginger bread house. I yelled in the house, and I don’t remember why, but I think it was because I wanted something that somebody stealed. And then I had timeout. I don’t want to get coal this year. How are your reindeer, and are they ready to go on Christmas Eve? Thank you, Santa Clause! I hope you have a good time eating cookies and stuff! From, Jude
Boo (age 12) Dear Santa Clause, I’ve been really good this year. I have hurt my brother a couple times. More than a couple. Like a lot. So I’m not sure I deserve all this stuff. I don’t purposefully hurt him. It just happens when we play. We are best buddies. He says so too. Really! But all I really want for Christmas the very most is a dog. I want the dog to be either an Alaskan Malamute or a German Shepard because they are the coolest dogs, and they are fun to play with when they are puppies. Now my mom says I should not get a dog. But you are not my mom. I think you should get me one because she will change her mind after a while when we have the dog and find out that it is a good thing to have another dog in our house because I will feed it, bathe it and do everything for it. And she won’t have to do anything for the dog. Because that is apparently why she isn’t letting me get a dog. If you can’t get me a dog, I want a PS4. I want the dog more than the PS4, but the PS4 will do. My mom says I can get a PS4 either because it has internet access, and she doesn’t like internet access even though she uses it. One more thing. My mom hasn’t disapproved of this one. But I want the other two things more than this one. But it is a camera mounted drone with a wireless live-view screen that receives the footage from the camera. I want to fly it around. That's all I want but I want the dog the most. Like 100 times more than the rest. Although your elves probably can’t’ make a dog, but they are available at Petsmart. Best regards, Boo
Patch (age 16) Dear Santa, Hey, what’s up? I’m just going to jump straight to the point this year. I’ve been a good boy. I’m sure. Positive! This year for Christmas I want a dog, two French hens, and a partridge in a pear tree. That’s it, The dog is for Boo. Cause he wants a dog. I ate all my vegetables this year. And I didn’t fail any of my classes… yet. Do you have diabetes? Are you lactose intolerant? Patch
Livy (age 18) Dear Mr. Santa Clause, How are you doing on this fine evening? Have you noticed that there is no snow on our roof? We came to the cabin hoping there would be snow, but there is none. I would much appreciate it if you could bring us some snow. Don’t bring it down the chimney though because it will melt. And make sure you are quiet when you land on our roof because the cabin is so small, and everything echoes. I feel like this year, I have been a wonderful girl. I got all B’s in my nursing classes. I am also beautiful, but today I drank too much coffee. Why don’t you and Mrs. Clause have any children? Are the elves your children? If so, you have a lot of children! I don’t know if we have any beer this year, but if we do, I’ll leave one out for you. I don’t think that would be drinking and driving since really the reindeer are the ones that do all the "driving." Say hello to all the reindeer for me. Please make sure you go to Monrovia after you get to our house, so you don’t transmit Ebola. And on that topic, I would like you to give all my presets to all the children who have Ebola, except perhaps a laptop and a pony. And possibly a new car. I’ve been saving for a car myself but, if you get me one I wouldn’t complain! Happy Jesus’s birthday, Santa! Have a wonderful night and keep warm, Livy

And every year I'm not only amused by the funny things they write in their Santa letters but astonished how these little minds are so amazing aware of the world and how it works. Tess said, "I should be good every day, but I am not really feeling good every day. Some days I feel grouchy or something, and then I get mad at Jude or Boo or something. But I don’t don’t know why. It’s just a part of life." Out of nowhere, SHE REALLY SAID THAT! Oh my goodness sweet gorgeous amazingly smart and in tune with yourself girl! I wrapped my arms around her and told her that's how it is for everyone. We all feel that way sometimes. And as we get big, we learn better ways to deal with those feelings. All in a letter to Santa.
ps-there was NO dog under our tree this year. Boo was right about that. But just for Livy, it started snowing Christmas Day!
