What You Need to Know About the MetLife TRICARE Dental Plan

I participated in an Ambassador program on behalf of Influence Central for the MetLife TRICARE Dental Program. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

January is the month that many of us focus on organizing our family for the upcoming year. Now is the time that my husband and I review our family finances, tax documents, legal documents, and insurance plans. We think it’s vital that we understand where our family stands in each of those areas so that we can make realistic plans for our future. For military families, it’s important that we take the time to review and understand the MetLife TRICARE Dental Plan and now is the perfect time to do it.

You need accurate information to be able to plan for your family and make good decisions. Five important points to consider when reviewing your MetLife TRICARE Dental Plan are:

1. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the MetLife TRICARE Dental Plan and your coverage by visiting their website, liking them on Facebook and Twitter. Knowledge is power, so inform yourself.

2. The MetLife TRICARE Dental Program is making changes to the monthly premiums, effective 1 Feb 2015. That means that there will be changes to the premiums that you will pay out of your pocket. Take the time to visit the MetLife TRICARE Dental Plan Premiums website and see how these changes will impact you and your finances. Remember that MetLife TRICARE Dental Program premiums are based on military status (Active Duty, Selected Reserve, Individual Ready Reserve) and type of enrollment.

3. Family members are covered under the MetLife TRICARE Dental Program regardless of the sponsor’s change in status to and from active duty. This means that your family can maintain the same dental coverage when the sponsor changes status.

4. Remember, although the TRICARE Dental Plan is a part of the TRICARE Health Plan for military families, you have to enroll separately in the dental program to access dental coverage for your family. If you haven’t yet enrolled your family, now is the time to do it.

5, Enrolling in the TRICARE Dental Program results in a 12-month commitment. Once you’ve completed the 12-month minimum enrollment period, you can continue on a month-to-month basis as long as you are eligible. This allows you flexibility in maintaining your coverage based on changes in your family’s situation.

I’m on my way now to review the changes to the MetLife TRICARE Dental Program premiums, so my family can make good decisions as we look ahead to the new year and our dental coverage. Hope to see you there. If you have any questions, be sure to visit the MetLife TRICARE Dental Program website.
