A Reflection of Five Years

It's hard for me to really believe that I have been blogging for five years today. I remember a few weeks before I actually took the plunge to my first blog post, I kept wondering what a good subject would be. What wasn't out there that I was good at. Three things were in my mind - gardening, decorating, and organizing.

Well, as you know, I picked organizing. I tried to figure a catchy title that would attract people. My main purpose was originally a place to put down my organizing ideas for my friends from church, since I got asked often about helping to organize. I'm not a professional organizer - in fact, hats off to them. I could not do that job. I'm not that patient or kind. I'd probably tell you all to just throw out or give all your clutter away and be done with it. But there's a lot more to it than that. Instead, I'm just a person who finds joy in getting things organized. I claim to everyone that I truly am not a perfectionist - ask my husband - and I don't have the "OCD" personality. I honestly don't notice things out of place, just clutter! In fact, I've shared with you about how I'm more ADD than anything and never to use that as an excuse not to be organized.

Sometimes I think people are a little afraid to have me over to their house because they think I'm going to judge the way their house looks. But I don't. I don't do that. I know everyone's life is different. I like things in order and clutter free. I work hard at it, but right now I don't have two little kids running at home - they are in school all day. My hope has always been to inspire and motivate moms to try and keep their home organized so they have a peaceful and relaxing place for their family. It's hard to relax in a home that his SUPER in order {like everything in OCD order} or in a home that is such a mess you can't walk anywhere. I want you to find the happy medium. Somewhere in the middle of messy and crazy organized. Comfortable.

My house is not spotless 100% of the time. I'm never embarrassed to have people over - even when I have stuff everywhere - which can happen at certain moments or in the middle of construction or something. I don't apologize because I don't want to point out something that people may not have noticed or draw attention to it. People aren't in my home to see my house, generally. They came to see me and I want to spend time with them. I hate cleaning. It's not a secret. When my kids were little, I survived on cleaning just 15 minutes a day. My house looked pretty good too! I made them clean up after themselves. I made them do chores. Now I have a cleaning crew that comes every other week to clean my house. Goodness this has been worth every penny to me. They clean stuff I never thought to clean. But, that's not important now...

I'm actually busier now than I was when my kids were little - just a different busy. I am the taxi mom who is happy her {almost} 16 year old son will be getting his license soon, Lord willing, so he can drive himself and his sister places in the near future. I've got this new "career" that I never really imagined would happen. I work with amazing companies and get to travel places I never imagined I would!

So, while this post may not be about all kinds of fantastic organizing or a big prize at the end, it's just a reflection of five years filled with DIY, decor, and organizing. I cherish those of you who have been reading my blog for years. Thank you! Please know that I read every single comment and email - even if I don't email or comment right back. I am so very grateful that I am able to make a living now doing what I truly love and inspire you to get organized and have a calm, relaxing home! Thank you!
