Interview - Sue Forey

As you may or may not know, back in September I took part in Etsy's mentor month and was paired with the lovely Sue Forey. Sue is a textile artist who lives in rural Wales on her own farm. One of the great things about Sue is that she makes her own felt from the fleeces of her own sheep. Everything about her work is completely her own is properly hand made which not everyone can boast about!

Here's a little more about Sue:

1. Have you always wanted to be an artist?
I've always enjoyed drawing and 'making things' but actually it never occurred to me that anyone would want to buy something I made until about 10 years ago. So the answer really is no.

2.How long have you been running your own business?
I have been selling my work locally for about 9 years but only full time for 2 years.

3 What inspired you to open your online shop?
When my youngest daughter got to an age that she was independent I had more time and decided to give it a go.

4.What part of your business to you enjoy the most and the least?
I enjoy the creative process and interacting with customers the most. The worst parts are the paperwork but I think my real bug bear is wrapping things up to be posted.

5. How do you get inspiration for your images?
Most of my work is inspired by the landscape around me. I like to portray it in a playful manner to put a smile on peoples faces. Sometimes though it can be a memory or just a colour.

6. Do any other artists inspire you?
Yes my favourites are Helen Elliot, Moy Mackay and Deanne Fitzpatrick.

7. Which is your favourite item in your shop and why?
I think I like the picture of a ginger cat running past a stone cottage and a sheep trying to climb over the wall best.

At first glance it just looks like a naive landscape but when you look more closely you can see the humor.

8.What would you like to be doing 10 years from now?
Exactly the same as I'm doing now but better!

9. Where else can you be found on the web?
