House Tour (kind of): The Living Room

(I don’t know how I always go a month between posts these days, ignore me, I’m terrible.) I’ve been putting off taking house pictures because everything is such a work in progress, but since we recently painted the living room/trim/bookcase/fireplace and managed to unpack some books and put a few things on the walls, I thought I should go ahead and share! The couch is my favorite thing. We found it a local vintage shop that specializes in mid-century mod (The Eclectic Etc. if you’re ever in Wilmington) just when I was giving up hope on finding the perfect vintage couch. The chrome/wood lamp was a craigslist find and is very pretty up close, but eventually I’d like to switch out the shade with a tiered fiberglass one. The big picture window behind the couch was another thing that sold us on the house because it overlooks the backyard, which means the dogs aren’t going crazy all day barking at people and cars. And we have two oak trees so it should be really pretty in the fall! That door leads to the laundry room which will eventually be an office/laundry combo, and we have an antique french door (another craigslist find) waiting to be sanded/primed/painted to replace that one.

Comin’ atcha!

The built-ins are awesome but I’m definitely still working on styling them. Ive been constantly shifting and rearranging things. I know that once we take family photos (Sunday!) we’ll put one on the mantle, and I recently printed an 8×10 instagram montage of Oliver-pictures, so that will go somewhere. But look, he has his own shelf! Which he promptly crawls over to and empties every morning. It’s nice to be able to keep favorite toys in here and have a place for them to go at night. Behind the big chair is mostly empty space with just the dog bed and my old Streit Slumber Chair that I want to eventually have professionally reupholstered. We don’t have anything on the walls back there yet and the chair just has a ton of crap on it, so yeah. No pictures!

Another thing I love about this house is all the exposed brick. The picture on the right is part of the entryway– that whole wall is brick (it’s the side of the fireplace) with a door to the kitchen. You can kind of see the brick in the kitchen picture on the left. We have so much work to do in the kitchen by the way, hence the boxes and lack of photos. The upper cabinet doors are off the hinges and need to be repainted, so everything is a mess. But there’s our little breakfast nook! With Oliver’s superseat because we still haven’t bought an actual high chair yet (I’m holding out for an Ikea trip). We found a ’50s gray cracked ice dinette table (also from Craigslist, surprise surprise) to replace our old yellow one, which lives in the laundry room now. I need to find matching chairs!

We have an entire brick wall in the dining room too because it’s a converted carport, although the previous owners painted it the same color as the room (green) so that needs to be fixed at some point. Right now I’m still sorting through boxes in there, trying to unpack books so that we can clear out space to set up the table. So yes, that’s it for now! I think it’s so charming, I’m so in love. I actually tend to stand in the entryway sometimes and just happysigh at everything because this house has the best vibe and I’m ridiculous.
