Tartan Builder’s kitchen

The kitchen is a very personal space and one of the most used and seen rooms in a house. So it is important that it not only looks great, but also functions for the family it serves. The classic style and crisp nature of a white kitchen is often most appealing to people. Which then leaves us with the question of how can we make a white kitchen feel warm and different from the next white kitchen?

The details are so important in any kitchen, but especially when you are wanting something that looks and feels different than your neighbor’s kitchen. For this kitchen, we kept things classic with polished nickel hardware and faucets, but added some wood elements at the bar, on the shelf of the island and in the dining nook to make the space feel a bit more modern. The cabinets are actually a very light gray instead of bright white.

We created symmetry by balancing the weight of the fridge with a tall pantry cabinet on the that hides the coffee maker and conveniently keeps dishes and glassware close to the table. Walnut stools, wood cutting boards, and a wood vase add warmth and are easy additions to any kitchen, but in this case also tie in the various built in wood elements throughout the kitchen. A white kitchen can be a statement and often its the accessories that completely transform the space into something truly special.

UPDATE: There have been a lot of questions about the paint colors! The perimeter is Farrow and Ball Cornforth White, the island is Farrow and Ball Off Black and the wall color is Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray.
