Patchwork Travel Diary #5: Amsterdam Street View

Non c'è alcun senso di bellezza o realtà nei paesaggi perfetti, non hanno spessore ma solo superficie. Viaggiare, nella mia mente, equivale a cercare il tarlo, ovvero quel dettaglio che ha subìto il passare del tempo, ha una storia, un colore, è sgangherato ma sincero. Biciclette abbandonate e piccole chiatte alla deriva, un mercatino vintage in cui comprare formaggi e vinili, un locale jazz in cui socchiudere gli occhi e scandire i pensieri a tempo di sax. Amsterdam è la quinta tappa del mio personale travel diary, raccontata attraverso alcuni scatti non convenzionali delle vie secondarie in cui, girovagare in cerca d' ispirazione e qualche affare, è dolce quasi quanto il far nulla. Tra un pit stop nei pub seminterrati per un chicken grilled con birra (Tripel - Lijnbaansgracht; Cafè de Koe - Marnixstraat) e un'intensa performance musicale live al Cafè Alto o al Club Paradiso, è dovere e piacere incappare in un'inaspettata mostra fotografica nel fashion concept store SPRMRKT con dj set, assaggiare cibo artigianale a cielo aperto al Noorder Markt e curiosare tra le creazioni per casa in legno e pelle nello store Raw Materials. Distrazione e attrazione sono all'ordine del minuto, zonzerellando tra le innumerevoli strambe gallerie d'arte contemporanea che spuntano come funghi in ogni dove, in particolare nella zona Spiegel Kwartier. Ecco quindi una piccola street view fotografica che inizia dalle case di Egelantiersgracht, scorre per i canali di Singelgracht con tappa al tulip flower market, oltrepassa i mulini a vento dell'affascinante Zaanse Schans, a venti chilometri da Amsterdam, e culmina nella media art della Wanrooij Gallery in Stadhouderskade e nell'iconico design showroom Moooi in Westerstraat.
There's no sense of beauty or reality in perfect landscapes, they just have surface but not depth. Travel, in my mind, is all about looking for the woodworm, that detail which has suffered the passing of time, has a history, a color, is ramshackle but sincere. Abandoned bicycles and small barges drifting, a vintage market to buy cheese and vinyls, a jazz club where close eyes and smile in time to sax. Amsterdam is the fifth step of my personal travel diary, told through some unconventional shots of secondary streets where, wandering in search of inspiration and some good business, is sweet as getting lost. Between a pit stop in the traditional pubs for a grilled chicken with beer (Tripel - Lijnbaansgracht; Café de Koe - Marnixstraat) and an intense music live performance at Alto Cafè or Paradiso Club, is duty and pleasure to run into unexpected photo exhibitions in fashion concept stores like SPRMRKT with DJ sets, buy artisanal food at Noorder Markt and browse the special home creations in wood and leather at Raw Materials store. Distraction and attraction are simply usual, chillin' among countless weird contemporary art galleries sprouting like mushrooms everywhere, particularly in the Spiegel Kwartier area. So, here's a small street view which starts from the houses of Egelantiersgracht, flows for Singelgracht channels, passing by the tulip flower market and Zaanse Schans windmills, to culminate with media art at Wanrooij Gallery in Stadhouderskade and at Moooi iconic design showroom in Westerstraat.
