Rocket Ship Kids’ Craft

For this month’s Make It Fun Crafts Team Challenge, we all received a whole box of styrofoam eggs with the challenge to make a kids’ craft to keep those kiddos busy during the coming summer break. My kids and I turned our eggs into fun rocket ships ready to blast off into adventure.
They were a lot of fun to make and fun to play with as well. Here’s everything you need to make your own:
Materials:
- Floracraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Eggs
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Thin Dowel Rods
- Glue
- Cardstock in Coordinating Colors
- Yellow or Orange Tissue Paper
- Paint Brush
- Scissors
- Round Punches (optional)
Start by inserting a thin dowel into the bottom of the egg. I secured them with glue to keep the egg from spinning on the dowel. This lets you fly your finished rocket and has the added benefit of making it easy to paint the egg without getting paint all over your fingers.
Paint the egg whatever color you choose and once the paint has dried, you can add another color to the top.
Next, punch a window out of two colors of cardstock using two sizes of round hole punches (scissor will work well too). You can draw a little astronaut in the window if you like, and then glue it to the front of the egg.
To make the ship’s wings, cut two rounded triangles, and fold the long edge. Clip slits along the fold on both sides and then glue the two pieces together. This creates a wing with two flaps that you will use to attach the wing to the egg.
The detached flaps will help you fit the wing to the curved side of the egg. You will have to hold the wing in place while the glue dries.
Finish up your rocket ship by adding tissue paper blasts to the bottom. Poke a hole and then glue a twisted square of tissue paper into the hole.
