Maker Faire 2015

On Friday, I told my husband I got us tickets to visit the Maker Faire at the San Mateo Fairgrounds. What I actually said was, ” There are going to be robots and drones.” He didn’t need anymore convincing.

Just a short Caltrain ride away, the Maker Faire felt like a world away from home. The tagline said it best, calling the faire “The greatest show (and tell) on Earth.”

The first thing we saw was this guy who made himself into a wooden robot. I can’t imagine how long it took him to build this. Let alone practice walking in it.

Then these zooming cupcakes. Surprise – there was a tiny bicycle inside!

This creature quad reminded me of the luck dragon from The NeverEnding Story.

When pedaled, the creature would move its body. It was quite cool looking.

There was so much to see, but one of the biggest features at the faire was virtual reality headsets.

My husband, Ernie, was experiencing a haunted house in these pictures. I got sick sitting through the rollercoaster VR game…I didn’t want to start screaming from a video game as well. The device was so simple, it just wrapped around a normal iPhone!

I even met R2D2!

Being the Apple nerd, I thought the collection of vintage Apple computers was a fun exhibit. Included were a stack of floppy disks! Total flashback.

I had no idea what was in store for us when we walked into the MakerFaire. But, I am so glad we got to experience the greatest show (and tell) on Earth.
