eMatrix Treatment Review

eMatrix Sublative Rejuvenation Treatment Review
Today I'm going to share with you guys this awesome treatment that promises to take care of skin problems such as scars, acne scars, wrinkles, fine lines, rough skin texture, superficial skin lesions and sagging skin for a fraction of the cost of fraxel or other regular laser and anti-aging treatments!

Sounds awesome huh? I may have just found the fountain of youth at the touch of a button! ;)

How does it work?
eMatrix delivers fractionated bi-polar radio frequency energy, making it an entirely distinctive cosmetic way to treat the skin. This energy keeps the top layer of the skin whole, producing a majority of the heat below the skin. The process maximizes collagen production. Healthy skin, around the fractionated area where the energy is delivered, accelerates the healing process, smoothing out imperfections in the skin. Recent research shows that this unique technology may be among the safest to treat darker skin types such as Asian, Latin, and African American skin.

After treatment with the eMatrix system for Sublative Rejuvenation, most patients showed improvement in facial parameters such as skin brightness (83%) and skin smoothness/wrinkle reduction (90%).

eMatrix is used in to treat these problems:
Wrinkles
Sagging skin
Scars
Acne scars
Skin roughness
Uneven tone
Skin discolorations such as Sun Spots

How long will it take to heal?
After the treatment, you'll notice a pinkish or red “sunburn” appearance and sensation but the feeling is comfortable. This appearance and sensation generally resolves within a 24-72 hours. Moisturizers may be applied several hours after each treatment and then should be applied regularly during the course of treatment. The treated patient should use sunscreen and use skincare products without glycolics/acids as advised by the physician.

So what is eMatrix Sublative Regeneration and what makes it different from the other skin treatments out there?
eMatrix uses focused fractional energy but it is Radio Frequency energy, not laser unlike Fraxel. The thermal response is not confined to a column as laser is - it tends to spread out more broadly beneath the top layer of the skin, so you get the collagen response without a direct corresponding level of external damage to the skin.

The effect is "Sublative" in that much more is going on than you actually see....somewhat like a pyramid shape as the heat energy fans out after it penetrates the skin. Collagen response continues after the superheating from either system for about 6 months at which time what you see is the final response.

For the most part, RF energy doesn't stir up melanin production so it's seen as a more desirable treatment for some skin types. The single drawback to Fraxel or other true laser as opposed to nonlaser energy such as Radio Frequency (as in eMatrix) is the higher degree of risk for post treatment hyperpigmentation with skins that have more pigment producing cells.

Advantages:
  • Minimal to no downtime
  • Deep dermal impact
  • Safe and effective for all skin types
  • Quick treatments: typically 10-20 minutes depending on area treated
  • Short treatment protocol: 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart

Meet the gorgeous and statuesque Dr. Bambi Uy. She first checked my skin condition prior to treatment and explained what she was going to do to my face, what to expect from the treatment and post treatment care.

First and foremost my skin concerns/issues were the fine lines on my forehead and eye area, my pores (Dr. Uy laughed when I complained about them she told me they weren't visible but I feel really conscious about them), an old small surgery scar on my forehead and ok fine!!! I just really don't want to look old ok! lol! As I've previously stated before, Prevention is always better than cure and increased skin collagen production sure wouldn't hurt ;)

There are 3 types of Program available from eMatrix depending on skintype/condition.

  • Program A—Shallow Impact: Mild ablation, dermal heating and skin resurfacing—for improvements in overall skin tone and texture.
  • Program B—Mid-Level Impact: Moderate ablation, dermal heating and skin resurfacing—for color and textural irregularity correction.
  • Program C—Deepest Impact: Intense ablation and skin resurfacing.

I got program A in most parts of my face and then B/C on the tiny scars on my forehead(old surgery scar).
First Dr. Uy applied a topical anesthetic all over my face and covered it with thin plastic to allow it get absorbed and we waited for my face to go numb before we started with the procedure.

Here's a video of me undergoing the eMatrix treatment! (yes my full face with no makeup again and overgrown roots hahaha click to enlarge if you want)
To be honest there was barely any pain/discomfort, I expected it to hurt more but I felt just like tiny pin pricks all over my face (plucking my eyebrows hurt more). My face turned really red and blotchy for awhile but then Dr. Uy put something on it and a couple of minutes after it was gone and I was good to go (a good thing too since I had to pick up my mom at the mall after the treatment!) My face felt really warm after the treatment and during the night but it wasn't anything painful or uncomfortable. I noticed that there was a burnt smell on my face but it went away the next day. I was advised not to wash my face that night but I was allowed to do it the morning after.

Here are macro shots of my skin the day after so you can see all the details and tiny imperfections on my skin magnified! my pores are sooo obvious here! (I wasn't able to bring my dslr during the treatment and my brother wasn't around to take photos), notice the tiny matrix of dots on my skin. I did not feel any pain/discomfort, just a slight stinging sensation when I washed my face. I used a mild facial wash, high SPF sunblock and moisturizer for sensitive skin.
Day 1

Here's day 2 after the treatment, notice the dots have become more obvious or darker but its nothing too alarming really I can even go out if I really needed to (but I'm not hahaha) My face feels rough when I washed it because these dots are actually tiny scabs I think but the doctor assured me these will go away and will not leave any scars/marks after. No stinging sensation when I washed my face this time.
Day 2

After the small scabs will shed off is the time I will be able to see the marked improvements but skin rejuvenation which makes the skin more tight and supple will become more visible 1-2 months after treatment since that will be the time my skin would be able to finish producing more collagen. Smokers should refrain from smoking during this period since smoking inhibits/destroys collagen production.
All smiles after the treatment with Dr. Bambi :)

Overall I am very happy with the service and excited about the results of this treatment. It wasn't really painful and my face did not look horribly red as I thought it would hahaha! My face did not get swollen, there was no fluids oozing out of my face or anything. Pls. stay tuned for updates regarding the results of my initial treatment and for my follow up treatment if ever.

I highly recommend this to anyone who wants better skin, those who have wrinkles, fine lines, scars, acne scars etc and prefer a more painless/non-invasive procedure with minimal to no downtime. This has lesser downtime than fraxel btw.
What's good about it is that results are long lasting and your skin will get better over time as your skin will produce more collagen so there's no need for constant/repeat touchups once you get the desired effect unlike botox/fillers.
