London Adventures: City of London

I love exploring the City of London on a Sunday. For those who might not know, the City of London (also known as the Square Mile) holds its own city status in central London and is home to the headquarters of many banking and financial institutions. It's usually bustling during the week - mostly with men in expensive suits and immaculately made-up women, but it's so quiet on Sunday. It's also quite near to home, so getting there can easily be considered a "leisurely stroll".

I didn't venture far west, mainly because I was feeling lazy the Sunday these were taken, and St Paul's seemed so far away, so unfortunately I don't have any photos of the Bank of England or St Paul's Cathedral. To compensate, I present you with Leadenhall Market. It's a grand Victorian building and is located between Leadenhall Street, Lime Street and Gracechurch Street. I sometimes grab my lunch from here during the week when it's much noticeably busier. Honestly, perhaps I'm ignorant but it's not one of the places I'd have known about if I didn't live in London. So I definitely recommend stopping by if you're visiting the City.

I suppose what I love most about the City, and what I find most pertinent here compared to most other places in London, is the juxtaposition between old and new. It has the shiniest, most modern and unique buildings you can think of, and a few hundred yards away you come across grand old buildings that are rich in history. I love watching my surroundings change, it just intrigues me to think what it's going to look like in 5, 10, or even 20 years from now, you know?

No one can really miss the Gherkin. It's sort of become a landmark of the City now I suppose. It also demonstrates my point above, as it's a short walk away from what remains of London Wall, which was first built by the Romans.

Sorry, this post is a bit random and has probably just turned into a convoluted history lesson. I really want to get more into sharing what I'm doing though, as I've been making more of an effort to "do" more things other than either working or watching Netflix.

I don't know why, but I feel more "me" than I've done in a good few years. I feel so positive about things at the moment and I've been making more of an effort with, well, everything really. So I thought I'd inject that influence into my blog too.

I hope that you're all well!
