Mariah Carey Could Barely Get Through Her Emotional Tribute to Prince Without Crying

After the news of Prince's tragic death broke on Thursday, plenty of the music legend's celebrity friends and fans couldn't help but publicly mourn him. One of those people in particular was fellow icon Mariah Carey, who learned of The Purple One's passing during the Paris stop on her Sweet Fantasy World Tour. "I didn't know if I was able to come out here and put on a show and be festive," Mariah told the crowd, choking back tears. "But I said, 'I'm in Paris and that's what Prince would want me to do.' To get through it rather than just make everything bleak, we need to take this and honor this." The recently engaged singer described Prince as an "incredible person" whose music "touched every single person in here" before holding a moment of silence for him in the arena, and dedicating the song "One Sweet Day" to his memory. "It's a very sad day, but we remember the life of somebody who will always be treasured," she said. Watch her heartbreaking performance above.
