My good friend and fellow blogger Jennifer from My Beauty Bunny recommended LATHER, a natural and holistic bath, body and skincare line so I was anxious to give it a try. Just listen to founder Emilie Davidson Hoyt’s inspirational story:
Emilie opened the first LATHER store in Pasadena in 1999; today, others stand in Atlanta and Scottsdale. Beauty boutiques, spas, and hotels also carry LATHER, helping to share Emilie’s vision worldwide.
Knowing my beauty dilemmas, Jen suggested two best selling items: bamboo lemongrass foaming body scrub ($39) for my dry sensitive skin and toning eye gel with vitamin K ($31) for my problem under eye bags. Both are award winning with good reason.
Let’s start with my dry aging skin. I can keep it under control on my face fairly well, but my dry arms and ashy legs are more challenging. LATHER’s bamboo lemongrass foaming body scrub is formulated with exfoliating bamboo powder, sea algae extracts, herbal extracts and almond protein. This foaming body scrub both cleans and gently sloughs away calloused and flaky skin. I originally used this scrub as it was intended: on wet skin rubbing in circular motions to work up a lather and rinsing with warm water. I also tried it MY way: jump in the shower and get wet, tun off the shower and rub in scrub all over, concentrating on elbows, knees, feet, etc. Turn shower back on and rinse! I feel this way you really get a good vigorous scrub. Now, the fabulous thing about this scrub is the granules; they are the perfect size and abrasiveness for the body. They provide just the right amount of exfoliation for the body; not too wimpy but not enough to hurt or tear delicate skin. The second best thing are the essential oils in the formula: lemongrass, geranium, petit grain, vetivert and ylang ylang linger on the skin to deeply hydrate dry, flaky skin without leaving behind a greasy residue.
When I first opened the jar, I was NOT impressed. The scrub looked just like coffee grounds and I wasn’t digging the strange smell. As soon as you start rubbing the scrub into your skin, the lovely refreshing lemongrass scent. It. Is.Heavenly. I will be purchasing the accompanying body créme for sure. By the way, LATHER’s bamboo lemongrass body crème made Oprah’s Favorite Things in 2014. I’m not the only one who adores this scent!
LATHER also has wonderful skincare products so I decided to give the toning eye gel with vitamin K eye treatment a try. Like many over 40 women, I have lost volume in my under eye area and it often looks puffy. I joke that I don’t just have under eye bags, I have a whole set of luggage!
This cooling, lightweight gel provides immediate relief and revitalization for tired, puffy eyes. Niacin and Vitamin K are smart choices in an eye gel. Niacin aids in restoring elasticity and firmness to the delicate eye area and Vitamin K is often used to help heal bruising which reduces the appearance of dark circles in the under eye area. Extracts of royal jelly, aloe, spirulina and green tea soothe and calm inflamed skin and adds plenty of hydration without being greasy–my pet peeve in an eye treatment. After using this gel, I’m going to have a hard time going back to a cream. It is über lightweight and absorbs quickly. I can feel a tightening under my eyes immediately and my concealer and makeup glide on easily. It de-puffs well, but I am kind of a hard case so I am going to put it in the fridge for even more de-puffing power.
All products are paraben-free and not tested on animals. In addition LATHER is believes what goes in the bottle is more important what goes ON it. You not find fancy packaging, instead the brand is committed to reducing the impact on the environment. All LATHER sample packs, shopping bags, cartons and gift cards are made form post-consumer recycled materials. I can get behind that!
Bottom Line: Friends know best! I am so happy Jen introduced me to the LATHER brand! The line is very extensive: it includes olive oils soaps, skincare, body care, hand and foot care, hair care, aromatherapy, accessories and gift sets.
