The New Wantable Style Edit Review

“Everyday is a fashion show and the world is the runway.” – Coco Chanel

Purchased by me

This was the quote that greeted me when I opened the first ever Wantable Style Edit box, which was just released this May. How can a style experiment go wrong when it starts with the good vibes of Coco Chanel. The Style Edit is the fifth subscription box to be added to Wantable’s line up. They currently offer a Makeup, Intimates, Accessories, and Fitness box. (The Fitness box works similar to the Style Edit Box)

What is the Wantable Style Edit?

The new Style Edit box works similar to services like Stitch Fix and Gwynnie Bee, where you pay a $20 styling fee to have a style editor handpick clothing and accessories for you, based on your preferences, to try on at home. You then have five days to decide what you want to keep, and what you want to send back. If you decide to keep all of the items, your $20 styling fee, along with a 25% Keep All Discount is applied to your total purchase price.

I’ve tried style-edited boxes before, without much success; the stylist never got my style or body type right. However, I had great hopes for the Wantable box because I have always been delighted with the Makeup and Accessories boxes they’ve put together for me.

What did my Style Editor Choose?

When I opened my Style Edit box I found five beautiful pieces of clothing, wrapped in black tissue paper, waiting for me. At first glance, I could see they definitely matched my style preferences, and were perfect for the season and the climate where I live. I received two dresses, two tanks, and a pair of boyfriend jeans. Let’s start with the dresses.

Kut from the Kloth Sheath Dress – $89 (Dress retails for $108 on Kut from the Kloth’s site)

From KUT: Sexy meets elegance on this vibrant sheath dress. Crafted in a jersey that will hug your curves in all the right spots, the v-drop back is a beautiful detail on this classic style.

The color of this dress just screamed, “Blythe.” I love blue. I have many, many clothing items in blue. In fact, I actually have a dress in this royal blue color, so I knew that no matter how this dress fit, I wasn’t going to keep it. I’ve been trying to expand my clothing color palette. Luckily, it didn’t fit exactly how I would like. It was too blousy on top, and a little to curve hugging, for my taste, on the bottom. I did love the v-drop back. It was just so unique.

Olive & Oak Pigment Washed Shirt Dress – $72

From Olive & Oak: This gorgeous sunkissed apricot shirt dress features a button-front and tie waist.

Again, my stylist did a great job choosing this dress, especially the color. I love wearing pink or peach because it matches my skin tone so well, plus it is the perfect color for spring and summer. This shirt dress is made from Rayon and has a bit of a weight to it, but nothing too heavy. I really wanted this dress to work, but unfortunately, this dress didn’t fit the girls so well. I have a large chest, which always makes buying button down clothing a challenge. The dress was a bit too tight in the top, and too loose in the bottom.

BCBGeneration Side Ruffle Tank – $68

From BCBGeneration: Best accessorized with It-Girl attitude, these flirtatious ruffles turn this tank into a vivacious must-have.

I love flowy tanks, especially when they have such a fun print like this Side Ruffle Tank in Seacoral. I had high hopes for this tank, even though it is sheer, but it made me look like a triangle. Along with my curves, and large chest, I have very narrow shoulders, so the square neckline and placement of the straps just didn’t work. If the straps had been placed further out, I could have rocked this tank all the way to fall.

BB Dakota Codie Tank – $57

From BCB Dakota: This black and white striped top has an opening in the back to add a little flare.

I must confess, I am not a huge fan of horizontal stripes. I know many fashionistas have been saying they don’t make you look larger, but I always feel like they do. However, this soft, comfortable tank, hugged my curves just right. Unfortunately, the size was a bit off. The top was too big, especially in the shoulders. It just didn’t hang right. I will say I was really surprised by how much I liked the opening in the back. It hit my back just right, and added dimension to a simple black and white tank.

Kut from the Kloth Catherine Slim Boyfriend Jean – $84

From Kut: Love is a great fitting pair of boyfriend jeans. Crafted with slightly destructed denim with light whiskers, our Catherine Boyfriend jeans are a perennial best-seller.

I can definitely see why these jeans are hit. They are both comfortable and stylish. The amount of destructive detail is just perfect for us over 40 girls, who want to be on trend, without looking like we are trying too hard. I’ve been looking for a good boyfriend jean for a while, and I’m still looking. While the Catherine jean fit my curves perfectly, my stupid short legs had ruined the rest of the look. I have a long body, but very short legs that are always wrecking havoc on my pant and jean buying. Usually the jeans and pants I buy have to be taken up, and don’t even get me started on capris. They are usually too long on me, which is exactly the problem with these jeans. The cuff leg hits me in the wrong place and I look like I am waiting for a flood. Oh well, the search and struggle continue.

Bottom line: Even though I ended up sending all five items back, I wasn’t disappointed with my first Wantable Style Edit Box. My style editor did a great job selecting every piece of clothing. I especially liked how well the tanks paired with the type of jeans she selected, so they created an outfit, and not just here are jeans and some shirts. I am looking forward to seeing what comes in next month’s box, especially since Wantable makes it so easy to review the items you receive, and to make changes to your profile anytime I want.

Note: Had I kept everything, my purchase price would have been $253 (including the 25% discount and applied $20 styling fee); an amazing deal for these unique pieces.
