Review: Fortune Cookie Soap 2015 Summer Soap Box

Purchased by me

It seems like only yesterday I was opening up the spring box from one of my favorite quarterly subscription boxes, the Fortune Cookie Soap Box, $19.99/quarter. Well, spring has come and almost gone, and it with it the spring box. I guess that means only one thing, it is time for the summer box, and I think I’ve figured out this year’s theme, Fairy Tales.

The Spring Fortune Cookie Soap box took us to Wonderland to visit Alice and friends, while the Summer FCS Box is taking us on a journey to Never Never Land to visit Peter Pan and his crew of Lost Boys. Just like all of the other Soap Boxes I have received, this box came with eight products, in a range of full and deluxe sizes, and included some newly launched items.

Straight On Till Morning – Let’s Never Grow Up Together

I love the Neverland theme of this box, though I will say that the “Straight on Till Morning” title reminded me more of a Beastie Boys song than a quote from Peter Pan. I can’t quite recall which Beastie Boys song I am thinking of, but I bet if I asked my 3-yr old nephew, he’d know.

As with each box I have received in the past, there is always a Fortune Cookie Soap, and OCC Hand Sanitizer, a body cream, and some other type of bath product(s). This month, FCS added three new products I adore; a Veggie Protein Deodorant, a lip balm, and new perfume oil.

Soap & Hand Sanitizer

“Second Star to the Right” – Fortune Cookie Soap

A happy thought and a bit of pixie dust. Glitter can’t make you fly, silly…this isn’t an acid trip! Crushed berries and mint leaves with a splash of sparkling pomelo, served over iced sugarcane.

The Fortune Cookie Soap is a staple of every box, and like all the other soaps I’ve received, they each come with a fortune. In keeping with the theme, mine said, “Crook..Crook..Crickety-crook, the croc is after Captain Hook.” This design of this quarter’s soap is not only out of this world, but it also smells magically delicious, with hints of citrus and berries. Plus, it looks fabulous next to the sink.

“Tink” – OCD Hand Sanitizer

Do you believer in fairies? Ok, good…we can be friends. Fresh cherries in cream, sprinkled with toasted coconut and a fairy dusting of powder sugar.

Another quarterly favorite of mine is the OCC Hand Sanitizers. I don’t know how FCS does it, but these always smell amazing, are never drying, and have the most unique names. You can definitely smell the coconut, cherries and cream in Tink. I wonder if this is what the mysterious Tinkerbell actually smells like?

Bath Products

“The Captain – Steam Me Up Scotty!

Call yourself a cod fish – don’t smell like one!! Dewy magnolias and wild berries drenched with fresh cream.

This is only the second time I’ve tried one of shower fizzes, at least that is what FCS calls them. Basically, you take the fizzy and place it on the floor of your shower, away from the water, and let the steam dissolve the fizzy so it can release it’s aromatherpeutic scent. (Yes, I made that word up.) I haven’t tried The Captain yet, but I can already tell my shower is going to smell oh, so sweet, which is very unCaptain Hook like.

Salt Scrub and Body Cream

“The Boy Who Never Grew up”– Salt Scrub

Boys don’t want to grow up & girls just want to have fun! Why can’t we have both?! Tropical margarita – served with a salted rim.

“Lost Boys” – Whipped Cream

Get lost for peach sake! Just don’t lose your marbles…Golden apricot muddled with fresh white peaches.

If it were possible to have a frozen margarita in the shower, it would pair perfectly with this salt scrub. Besides smelling like a perfect summertime cocktail, the scrub itself feels both light and creamy, with just the right amount of salt to scuff off those dead skin cells. After taking a margarita filled shower, I love slathering myself in “Lost Boys.” This whipped cream has to be one of my all time favorites. There is just something about the scent of apricots and peaches. It lets you know summer is here. I think I may need to order a full size of this whipped cream.

Unique Additions

“Wendy Bird” – Veggie Protein Deodorant

Don’t be afraid to raise your arm and flip the bird…the Wendy bird that is! What were you thinking?! Bright, green apple with a balmy, tropical twist.

“Mermaid Lagoon”– Two Phase Perfume Oil

Our coconuts bring all the mermaids to the lagoon – but watch out, they’ll probably drown you! Them beaches…To use: Shake it more than twice, it’s fun to play with! May stain clothing (take it from Bill & Monica)

“Kiss”– Lip Balm

Here’s a thimble, pucker up! Exotic watermelon, juicy pineapple and coconut water, bursting with fresh citrus juices.

As I mentioned in my Fortune Cookie Spring Box Review, FCS has been adding some new, unique products to their boxes. This quarter was no exception, with the addition of a perfume oil, lip balm and deodorant. Though perfume was included in the included in the winter and spring box, this time they included a two phase perfume oil in a spray bottle. With its light, coconut scent, Mermaid Lagoon definitely reminds me of a tropical paradise. I’ve received several compliments the few times I have worn it.

Two of my favorite products this month are the new addition of a lip balm and deodorant. Both smell like a summer dream to Never Never Land, and best of all, the each work extremely well. The lip balm is very hydrating, while the deodorant offers protection that lasts all day; something that is hard to find in more natural deodorants. I’ve even tested the deodorant during my workouts and it held up pretty well. I want full size items of both of these products. Guess I know what I will be using my $10 off code for this time.

Bottom line: There are many reasons why Fortune Cookie Soap Box is one of my favorite subscription box services. There’s the great deal of paying only $19.99 for each quarterly box, plus receiving a $10 off coupon in every box, the amazing array of bath and body products, that not only smell great, but also work great too, and of course the whimsical and humorous product descriptions. But mostly, I love knowing that every quarter there will always be some unique product to discover and try out.

Summer boxes are sold out, but there’s still time to sign-up for the fall box. I wonder what fairytale adventure we’ll go on next.
