Gloves construction

Okey dokey, I decided I wanted to make gloves on my 1602. I have my gauge and started and got so far then I started having issues. I used the pattern generator which is lovely, but I guess maybe something’s I havent done before.

I finished the gusset portion which is on the left side of the bed and the next instruction was to take the thumb off on waste yran. I thought easy peasy….. So I placed all of the hand stitches to holding position 3 and changed the yarn. I thought that I needed to cut the main yarn because to put new yarn on the main yarn would get in the way…. So I cut it.

With the waste yarn and in circular on both beds I swiped to the left first. Well I guess because the other needs were in hold the front bed needles did not catch and all the stitches came off….. So I put them back on and I hand manipulated the front bed and then could run the carriages after that.

I dropped the thumb and went back to the main portion of the hand threading the carriage and both carriages were on circular, but when I knitted it it made like a zig zag stitch not a circular one. I checked it 3 times every button is correct….. Just because I cut the yarn it should still knit circularly right?

So question 1) what is the easiest way to take partial amount of stitches on waste yarn with or without the carriage and question 2) what do you think happened with the circular knitting after I picked it up again?

Thank you in advance. I thought this was going to bed hard, but it seemed really easy when I actually got down to it. I’m just having a little frustrating issues.
