An Ohio Star Quilt - The Blues
For my next quilt I am stepping outside of my color comfort zone with a palette of blues, browns, grey, and a touch of black. Although I do like these colors I generally work with a brighter, cheerier color palette; embracing a rainbow of colors and whatever is on offer in my scrap bin that is then put together with an
anything goes attitude. Not so for this project.

hourglass block but I have also intentionally alternated light and dark fabrics to create a pattern of
(Ohio) stars or
Square in a Square blocks, depending on your focus.
I have also chosen to incorporate fabrics other than standard quilting cotton. I love the texture and interest that linen or linen blend fabrics add to a quilt and have included numerous pieces in this project. This includes both commercially printed and hand screen printed linen blend fabrics, plain linen blend fabrics, chambray fabric, several pieces of Liberty of London Tana Lawn, and of course a selection of quilting cotton fabrics (printed and woven).
QUILT STATS: An Ohio Star Quilt - The Blues Quilt top measures 60 inches x 60 inches.
Sewn together in 17 rows of 17 blocks: 145 squares and 144 Hourglass Blocks. Each
finished unit measures 3.5 inches x 3.5 inches. (see
Hourglass Block tutorial here). A selection of 100 different fabrics including quilting cottons and linen blend fabrics.
An Ohio Star Quilt - The Blues | Work in Progress Even though I was concerned about how these colors would work together, and if I was using fabric with sufficient contrast to effective showcase the design, I thoroughly enjoyed piecing this quilt top and I love how it turned out. Blue has always been a favorite color and brown is definitely a color I am warming to.
Ready for basting and quilting.
Thank you for stopping by,
Rita
