And so it begins ... a new year and the first finished quilt for 2015. The Oakshott Kaleidoscope Quilt was started late November, and completed this new year. This quilt is a commission project for a raffle quilt and whilst I have chosen all the fabrics/colors, and pieced the quilt top, Karen Terrens (from Quilts on Bastings) has done all of the quilting.

Karen is an award winning professional long arm machine quilter, and has done some amazing free motion work on this quilt. I was very happy to hand over the quilt top and give Karen free rein to do her quilting "thing". I love the flow and the intricate detail of the quilting designs. The texture of the quilt is truly amazing - I hope my photos do Karen's work justice.

For the back of the quilt I have chosen one of my current favorite backing fabrics ~ Newsprint from the Paint Collection by Carrie Bloomston. I also planned the use of black fabric for binding. Black binding fabric on an all black border, sewn on with black thread seemed like a good idea at the design stage, but my eyes said otherwise during the actual binding process. It is however the perfect finish for this quilt.

I am so pleased with how this quilt has turned out - it is beautiful. The fabrics and the quilting detail are both exquisite. I am also happy to have ticked this quilt off my bucket list. This year I hope to tick several more projects off my ever growing list of quilts that I would like to make. I think it is going to be a busy year.
Thank you for stopping by,
Rita
