Project Declutter: Cabinets and Surfaces

Day 17: Kitchen Cabinets and Surfaces

Yay!! I’m so excited to show you my decluttered, organized kitchen!!

First off, I went through a couple of more cabinets, decluttering and organizing. Here is the corner cabinet:

It’s got my nice dishes which we use infrequently, serving tray, wine glasses, and then plastic cups (which we also use infrequently right now), Ain’s cups and plates. The drawer underneath it had place mats and cloth napkins, which we RARELY use so I decided to relocate them to the basement. It’s empty for now, until I decide what I need to put in it.

I also tidied up the main cabinet next to our fridge. Matt and I have talk to many time about getting rid of some of our mugs, but we can just never seem to do it! So, yes, three of the shelves are mugs:

I also looked through all my drawers. I have one for towels, the middle for spices, and the bottom one is filled with plastic containers that Ain can play with while I am cooking. The problem is, he also constantly open the spice drawer and gets those all disorganized. I’ve put it on my to-do list to baby-proof the spice drawer, because I want it staying this nice:

Yep, they are alphabetized from bottom left, up in columns and the last one is top right. The staple spices we have on hand I labeled awhile ago. I should label all of them at some point.

Surfaces

The whole time I’ve been decluttering the kitchen, I had as my goal: to clear off the surfaces. This includes the refrigerator. Here is a picture of what it looked like before:

WAY too much clutter for my liking. So I took off pictures, cards, and invites. I took off my calendars (I’m going digital even with my menu plan)! And I narrowed down what was on top of the fridge to only what could fit inside the basket (and the kitchen knives). Ta-da!

And here are my counter surfaces. Surface #1, beside the fridge and under the main cabinets:

The spices I use most often in cooking are in those magnetic containers on the fridge.

Surface #2:

I recently decided to put the grass for Ain’s dishes in the sink, and I’m going to keep the other one clear. Instead of using a dish drying rack, I’m going to put most of the dishes in the dishwasher and the ones I have to wash by hand will dry on this mat:

I’ll be honest, right now my kitchen table is full: the computer I’m currently working on to write this post, some papers, and a few other odds and ends I need to take to other rooms. So, I’ll take a picture of that another time to show you.

Tomorrow I’m going to tackle the bathroom!! See you then.
