The Maria and Fernando’s day, a wedding full of details!

Maria and Fernando, the couple of the month elebrated a wedding full of details and surprises for the guests; 46 types of gin, prosonalized plates, a popcorn mahine, McDonald’s… Rosa Clará, friend of the family, helped the bride to get the dress of her dreams. Where was the ceremony held?

The ceremony was held in Mare de Déu de la Mercè Basilic, in Barcelona. A church filled with sentimental value. My grandparents, my husband’s grandparents and my sister all got married there!

Where did you get ready for the big event?

I was living with my parents at the time and prepared for the big day at home. We shared a lot of special moments as we prepped and groomed for the special occasion.

How and where did you find your Rosa Clarà dress?

I knew without a doubt that my dress would be from Rosa Clarà. My sister got married 6 months earlier and she wore Rosa Clarà and I fell in love.

I was not sure about the style of dress I would choose, but there’s an indescribable feeling that’s to be felt when trying on any Rosa Clarà model! You feel so special. So I made an appointment. When I arrived I didn´t have any ideas, and Rosa Clarà herself along with the shop director, Tina, knew precisely which pieces complemented my figure and my personality. I was enchanted with two models and loved them so much that I decided to combine the two. It was the perfect choice for the big day!

I insisted on having a big bow and while the dress was being crafted, we found the perfect place to put it.

Did you wear a headdress?

Yes, I wore a beaded Rosa Clará hair clip that matched the beadery on my dress. The clip held my veil in place during the ceremony, and I later removed it during the reception in order to kick my heels up.

How about the complements you wore? (shoes, jewellery)

I am a very practical woman who does not normally wear heels. So it was important for me to find a pair that was not only charming but also comfortable. I found that at Unisa, a Spain based shoe brand that specializes in comfortable and chic footwear. When I was ready to dance I switched into of-the-moment espadrille wedge sandals. I danced a lot! I also wore a pair of earrings my mother gave to me.

Who made your bouquet? Which type of flowers did it have?

Singular Envit made the floral decorations and my bouquet. They knew what my husband and I wanted without us having to say much. I informed them of the type of dress I would be wearing and they created the perfect bouquet, which consisted of hydrangeas, grey brunias and bombastic roses in pink and ivory.

Did you put nervous?

The days leading up to the wedding were stressful. But on the morning of the wedding, I was particularly calm. I experienced a high level of nervousness later, when my family made there way to the church and I stayed behind with my parents in the car. I knew everyone was there anticipating my arrival!

But all those nerves left me when I made my way out of the car and headed towards the church. I felt total peace. The moment I had always dreamed of was finally here!

I calmly walked into the church and enjoyed every moment!

Where was the reception held?

The reception took place in Can Magí in San Cugat. A place with great sentiment for us as it was where our relationship started (during a friend´s wedding).

The well regarded, Esther Conde, successfully accommodated our catering needs. I knew without a doubt they were the right selection.

To whom did you give the bouquet?

I divided my bouquet into two parts ad gave one of them to my best friend and the other to my cousin. I strategically sat them back-to-back at different tables so I could give them their bouquets at the same time.

The cake figurine was given to a friend of mine. It was a special moment because I made it myself.

Is there a special or fun moment you remember?

I would consider every moment of that day to be special. But if I had to choose one it would have to be when my father walked me down the aisle. I saw my visibly nervous, future husband at the altar! It seemed as if the months leading up to this momentous day would never end and it was great revealing my dress to all my friends and family–especially my husband.

But if I could choose three, I’d add these two:

My wedding day was also my birthday. Before it was time to cut the cake my husband disappeared and Cliff Richard’s “Congratulations and Celebrations” began to play. All our guests headed to the dance floor with blue glow sticks. Then my husband reappeared wearing a chef’s coat pushing a cart with a big chocolate statue. It was in the shape of the letter “M” and the number “26” . I blew out all the candles and later all the guests attacked the chocolate. With all sincerity, it was the best present I’ve ever received!

Lastly, our brothers personalized a song for us as a way to take a piece of home with us to San Francisco. Something we will always remember.

Any original details in your wedding?

There were a lot! To begin, we chose a Gin and Tonic setting. Every table had miniature gin bottles ascribed with our guest names that doubled as our wedding favours.

We were also relocating to San Francisco after the wedding so we decorated a table with things from San Francisco and added a lot of postcards from Barcelona. Every postcard had a stamp so people could send us postcards throughout the year!

It was imperative that everyone had fun so we included: a popcorn machine, a sweets and desserts table, slippers for all the girls, a photo booth, a “McDonalds” table for those who wanted to delight in a midnight snack.

Could you tell us and advise to the future brides?

Enjoy every moment! During the preparations process and at the actual wedding. Also, it is very important to choose your vendors carefully (catering, photos, video, decorations, flowers, dress, etc)! They will be the persons who really are going to help you and most importantly– trust them.

Make your wedding your own. I drove my family crazy when I was looking for different miniature gin bottles. It seemed impossible at times but I found them and it was a major success!

The DJ was Alex Permanyer, he kept the party alive all night!
