Responsive web design can put you ahead of the competition

So now that you have started the digital marketing journey for your business, you will need to take it one step further. You started with a website, and you made it better and more attractive over time. Next you opted for some search engine optimization and social media marketing. You’ve got the customers interested now; young and old, close and far. Just having a new and inviting website can make all of the difference for your customer base. When they have a chance to research what you and your products are all about on the web, they will come in feeling like they already know you. These are all a great start, but what comes next? Responsive web design, that’s what.

If you haven’t heard of this type of design don’t feel like you are that behind. With changing technology comes changes in marketing and it will never stop. So the best way to stay ahead of the competition is to continue to reinvent and redefine your marketing

strategy. One aspect of marketing that you will continually need to reassess is your website. These days most companies are constantly adding new mobiles versions of their websites so that they can be viewed more easily in different devices. Consumers don’t just view websites with desktop computers anymore. Several times a day we switch our online browsing from laptop to tablet to smart phone and back again. Among these different devices are different requirements for resolutions and grids. The website that you view on your iPhone won’t look the same when viewed on a laptop. The resolution needs to be adjusted, along with many other things. But companies want to make sure that their sites are available for viewing from all devices, so they work to make many versions. Even just within smart phones there needs to be a different version for a Blackberry than for an Android.

As a solution to the problem of so many different web formats, responsive web design was developed. This is a newer approach built on the thought that the design and development of a website should respond to the user. More particularly, the website design should respond to the behavior and environment of the user. This means changes in screen size, orientation, and platform. This can be made possible with a mix of layouts and flexible grids, images, and media queries. The website should switch flawlessly as the user switches between phone, tablet, laptop, and back again. Automatic transitions should happen in this sense. We have the technology to do so much these days, so shouldn’t we have the technology to make webpages transition between devices with no problems? Websites should respond to the user’s preference, not the other way around. Once we can get this down, there will be no more need to have so many different web designs and developments. So now that you understand the difference between this kind of web development and overall digital marketing, you better get started! Your customers will soon want their viewing to transition smoothly.
