Italy’s Franco Augello on His Bespoke Vintage BMW Motorcycles

The latest short film from Petrolicious takes a closer look at Franco Augello, the Italian craftsman and designer behind the customized motorcycles sold at his store, Sumisura. Augello’s passion for motorcycles began at the age of eight, when his grandfather gave him a mini cross bike for his first communion. It’s from there he began collecting bikes, taking them apart, customizing them first to his own and then to his customers’ specific needs. Augello’s motorbikes draw on the top-quality craftsmanship of BMW bikes from the ’70s and ’80s, and consist of parts from classic models that are restored to last. He calls them “gifts from the past” to which he gives “a second life.” Augello likens his motorcycles to a bespoke suit; an apt comparison considering the care and precision that goes in to the creation of each bike. These aren’t just customized BMWs with recycled parts –they’re personalized and powerful vehicles created with an eye for details and aesthetics that last their owners a lifetime.
