My Burger Blind Date

When an email popped into my inbox with the subject 'Hot burger in Manchester seeks love interest', my curiosity took over and I couldn't open it fast enough. The email went on to say:

"Do you lie in bed craving a relationship you can really sink your teeth into? Are you looking for romance of the incredibly meaty variety?"

It really spoke to me, as I'm definitely a girl who loves a good fling with a new burger every now and again. The invite was, of course, from the super fun team at TGI Fridays. I missed their event last year and wished I'd binned off my other plans after seeing what everyone got up to, so I knew I couldn't turn down their invitation for a burger blind date.

We were passed a menu with a list of contestants to choose from. This was no ordinary menu, there were no mentions of ingredients, just some not-so-subtle hints as to what we would get from each burger blind date contestant.

I was quite indecisive (as always) but the Francophile in me leant towards Contestant #5, which promised to be "rich, romantic and mysterious" and had a little illustration of the Eiffel Tower next to it. This turned out to be their French Dip burger, winner! The burger was topped with melted Swiss cheese, caramelised onions, garlic mayo and came with a pot of gravy to pour over it. The flavours were great and I loved the addition of gravy, but it was a shame it didn't come in a shallower pot so I could dunk my burger into it.

Overall, my date was a solid 7/10, and I would definitely see the French Dip burger again!

Mat's burger blind date was Contestant #4. I mean, I tried not to be a jealous girlfriend but I couldn't help it. This contestant mentioned "telling porkies" and the phrase "pick me and you've pulled", which could only mean one thing - PULLED PORK!
This turned out to be the BBQ Pulled Pork burger, topped with pulled pork, pickled red onions, Colby cheese, Friday's mayo and smothered in BBQ sauce. He enjoyed it but we both agreed that our burgers needed to be a little pinker. Still, we both left with happy tums and I'd love to revisit to try some more of the menu.

Even though this blind date was mostly about the meaty hunks from their new hand-crafted burger menu, I couldn't possibly not mention their lovely cocktails. On arrival the bar tender asked us about our favourite spirits and flavours and whipped up a couple of cocktails for us. Mat confessed his undying love for mojitos (yuck) but thankfully she dismissed this and made us two blueberry caipirinhas.

I am majorly in love with caipirinhas and Mat usually hates them, but we were both really pleased with this little twist on a classic. It was seriously delicious and the perfect boozy end to a long day at work.

A big thanks to the TGI Fridays team, it did not disappoint and we had such a laugh, mostly at the little photos they gave us to take away at the end. A lovely little framed picture of each of us scoffing our burger... it's the worst. Every time I see it I can't help but die of laughter. I'd be lying if I said I'd love to share it with you all!
Have you tried any of the burgers from TGI Fridays before?
