Easy summer dress in Indian cotton

I have been on a roll sewing up these cheapo Wal Mart patterns! This one has been in my stash since last year. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out , even if it might be a little short. It’s a Simplicity Sew Simple pattern and sells for ninety seven cents! The weird thing about these Sew Simple patterns is they aren’t available on the Simplicity web site OR anywhere else online. Maybe you can only buy them at Wal Mart? I wonder what the deal is with that…
It has a pleated neckline with a facing facing, elastic waist, and self fabric belt. I added a lining, too. It also has pockets but I was in a hurry to sew it up and didn’t add them. I wish I had added them, because I find myself reaching for them in this dress. Somehow it feels like there should definitely be pockets!
The fabric is a really soft cotton sent to me all the way from India from The Delhi Store. I really love this shop . They have such pretty cotton prints, and I love to read the stories behind each piece of fabric. I used another of their fabrics on this tunic also.
It’s a perfect easy to slip on summer dress. I misplaced the belt already, but it’s OK without it.
It’s a little too blousy or fluffy under my bust. But it still fits better than most ready to wear type dresses in this style which are usually too short waisted for me.
It’s pretty short too, but it is a summer dress. But you may want to lengthen it if you’re tall. I’m 5’6″. I made a size 10 and made no changes to the pattern.
Happy Father’s Day! We are off to the beach then having the grandpas over for a little Barbecue.
