Styling My Handmade Stuff: Faux Fur Vest & Turtleneck # Wardrobe Architect

I found out about the Wardrobe Architect Series last week on the Coletterie Blog. About a year late. How did I not hear about this ?? It is an intelligent, thoughtfully written, and a sooo helpful series of blog posts about nailing down just what your personal style is and the silhouettes I’m drawn to.

It’s been really fun! There are downloadable worksheets to fill out, and I’ve actually learned quite a lot about Moi from filling them out. After making several pieces last year that I never really wore, I figured I need to work and sew smarter. AND start wearing more of the things I’ve made in the past. So I’ll be posting how I style my handmade clothes together every once in awhile. No, I’m not turning into a fashion blog. I won’t be posting where I buy my shoes and purses and whatever. if something I’m wearing that’s not handmade interests you, you can shoot me an email.

This series is to get me to regularly wear my handmade clothes and work them into my own personal style in new ways. Like a little Me Made May post, every week or two. And seeing how I wear my stuff in these photos will help me figure out my personal style. So let’s get started!

Faux fur vest made from Simplicity 2121.

Jeans & tall boots

I made the vest three years ago and didn’t wear it at all last year, but I’ve rediscovered it again.

I wore this outfit on New Year’s Day. We took a little trip down to Hollywood for a movie.

The girls outside of my favorite pizza place on Hollywood Boulevard, Stefano’s Two Guys From Italy. I used to come here with my dad when I was their ages, then I would hang out there with my friends after school( and sometimes while playing hooky) and play the jukebox as a teen. How many times did I play I Love Rock & Roll by Joan Jett? hmmm…. There was a notorious biker bar next door called The Nest which was a big hangout for The Hell’s Angels. There were Harleys parked all up and down the sidewalk.

We had a fun day out. We also went to El Capitan Theater to see Into The Woods. It’s an old style movie palace with a balcony, and the girls had never seen such a huge screen. There was an exhibit of costumes from the movie there and sketches from the costume designer Colleen Atwood. She is so,so great.
