The Valencia Tunic by Willow & Company

Today I’m showing you the Valencia Tunic pattern I sewed yesterday by Willow & Company . The Valencia Tunic was designed by Hayley from Mouse House Creations. You can see the summer look book of Willow & Company here.
I should first mention that I made two careless mistakes when sewing this pattern.: Not following the instructions and not cutting the right size. And lastly, I made it so close to the deadline for my tour date, that I didn’t have time make another one in time for the tour.

I went ahead and self lined the bodice and after I was all done, I realized I forgot to sew the collar on! So I went ahead and sewed the collar on to my already finished neckline.Which wasn’t a good idea, as I lost a half of an inch from the neckline. The result was that the neck became too small, as you can see by the pulling of the bodice in these photos. I thought about it today, and when I got home I pulled out my seam ripper and removed the collar. Problem solved! Now if I had only followed the instructions to begin with, I would have saved myself a lot of headache!

I also went of course by cutting out a size smaller then the pattern told me to. I’ve gotten so used to sizing down with my Big 4 patterns that I automatically did the same thing with the Valencia tunic. Well, Hayley’s sizing is actually really accurate, like a ready to wear blouse, with not too much ease so it was a lesson learned.

Moral of the story? Read the instructions even if you think you have already made stuff like, and don’t need to. You are never too old or too experienced to eat a piece of humble pie learn something new!

But luckily, I can squeeze into it ,which is good, because it’s a perfect everyday summer blouse. So thanks Hayley for having this scatterbrained seamstress on the tour! Now go check out the Valencia tunic!

Isn’t this version from their site adorable?

In short, this is a really cute, everyday summer top, and once I fixed my mistake and removed the collar , the pulling at the neckline was fixed and all ended well! Now I need to go make a salad with my beautiful homegrown lettuce…..
