A Culinary Blog Tour

It’s official! Today is the first day of Spring. You know what that means, don’t you? It’s going to be warm enough soon to run around without any pants on! Woot!

Along with seeing the beginning of Spring as an opportunity to run around half naked, I also see it as a chance to introduce you to 3 of my favourite food blogs that I think you should salivate over. My top 3 food blogs to follow, as it were.

You see, at the start of the month I was included by Amanda at Once Upon A Recipe on a Culinary Blog Tour. Needless to say I was honoured and humbled by her feature of She Eats. Amanda is someone who I respect immensely and drool over regularly. That is to say I drool over her blog posts, not her. Though she’s pretty darn tootin’ hot her own damn self. She makes the most delicious food and helps us see that “you can create any kind of food fairytale that you like – your kitchen is your oyster!”

Amen lady.

She’s a force. And her Dark Chocolate Almond Florentine Cookies are too. So are her recipes for Strawberry Rhubarb Crumb Cake, Anything Goes Pasta, Orzo with Parmesan & Basil, Caramelized Onion & Goat Cheese Tartlets, Tequila Shrimp, Fresh Citrus Margaritas, and Rosemary Gin Fizz. Clearly she likes her booze and carbs. Luckily I do too.

Mmmmmm, booze and carbs.

Grateful and hungry, I’ve compiled a list of 3 other culinary blogs I think you’ll enjoy. I won’t lie. Choosing only 3 was the hardest thing I’ve had to do since I tried to poop this morning. Just kidding – I pooped just fine. But this was a tricky decision. So without further ado, debate or pooping around, let’s take our pants off, toast Spring and check out my top 3 food blogs to follow.

Spicy Quick-Pickled Spring Radishes from Holly & Flora

1. Holly and Flora. Jayme is more than a favourite food blog; she’s a favourite person. Her candor, honesty and incredible recipes always inspire laughter from me and sometimes even tears. In a good way. Her personality shines through each and every recipe and she’s an inspiration in my life. Really, she makes us feel like we’re sitting down with a good friend and chatting over drinks. She also happens to have excellent taste in bourbon.

I might be breaking the rules here, but I couldn’t pick just one blog post from her. So here’s a bunch:

Blood Orange Whiskey Cocktails | Edible Flower Ice Cubes | Caipirinhas | Pickled Spring Strawberries & A Refreshing Gin Cocktail | How to Make Shrubs (aka Drinking Vinegars) | Apricot & Black Tea Irish Whiskey Cocktail

Curried Lime Cauliflower Bites with Curry Mayo from The Endless Meal

2. The Endless Meal. I had the pleasure of discovering Kristen’s website after moving back to Vancouver this year. She runs an underground Supper club in Gastown and her no bullshit approach to real food has me right tickled. I love her commitment to eating seasonally, ensuring pigs lead happy lives before they become bacon on her plate and enjoying bold flavours. She’s awesome. And not just because she hired me to re-design her website.

Again, breaking the rules. But that’s what they’re there for, right? Here’s some other diddies you might want to eat:

Grapefruit Margaritas | Harissa Shakshuka (Egg & Tomato Breakfast Skillet) | Chipotle Pulled Pork Tacos with Chayote Squash & Apple Slaw | Four Cheese Mac & Cheese | Deliciously Fresh Lemon Lime Loaf | Cauliflower Polenta with Mushrooms & Hazelnuts

Fig Tartlets with Herbs & Honey from Yummy Supper

3. Yummy Supper. Erin’s food seriously gets me…. hungry. Or something dirtier because her dishes always look so fliptastically good. She features natural, seasonal, accessible recipes that are somehow both rustic and elegant at the same time. Her blog is gluten-free but even if you’re like me and love wheat, you won’t miss it. Her cookbook (with reviews from the likes of Alice Waters and Nathan Williams no less) came out this past year and is also equally delicious; I made her Wild Salmon with Dill Butter in August and have been eating it ever since.

A few more recipes you’ll want to indulge in:

Braised Pork with Blistered Tomatillos | Quinoa Orzo with Asparagus & Preserved Lemon Dressing | Breakfast Salad | Veggie Fritters | Fresh Lime Fizz | Massaged Kale with Pomegranate, Persimmon & Pistachios

Aaaaaaaand now I’m starving and without any food in the house except leftover roasted carrots and crepes. I suppose life could be worse.
