Available TODAY the Academy Award Winning Animated Film – Disney’s Big Hero 6

Congratulations are on order for Disney’s Big Hero 6. The popular animated film won this year’s Academy Award for Best Animated Film. The film beat out other popular films like How to Train Your Dragon 2 and The Boxtrolls. Big Hero 6 is also the third highest grossing Disney film of all time, surpassing Beauty and the Beast and behind Frozen and The Lion King.

I have to admit that I wasn’t really sure about the film when I first saw clips from it. I assumed it was a super hero/anime type film. I am not a fan of anime. Although the marshmallow looking character Baymax looked cute, I really wasn’t sure if the film was for me.

Oh boy! Was I ever WRONG!

I initially watched my screener copy by myself. I didn’t think it was a film my husband or hard to impress teens would like. Now that I’ve watched it I am looking forward to this week’s Family Movie Night so my family can enjoy this awesome film.

Big Hero 6 is a story about a young teen boy named Hiro who lives with is brother Tadashi and their aunt Cass. Their parents were killed a couple of years earlier in an accident.

Tadashi attends a special university for talented student, working in the robotics lab. Hiro is into robots too, but he would rather fight robots in back alleys instead of putting his brains and his talent to good use.

One day Tadashi takes his little brother to visit the robotics lab and he likes what he sees. So much so he applies to attend the university.

Hiro entrance project is a swarm of tiny robots that all work together to create bigger things. The university is so impressed that they offer Hiro a place in their robotics lab.

That same night tradegy happens leaving Hiro feeling down and alone. That is until his brother’s last robotic creation, Baymax, comes to life to help take care of Hiro. Baymax is a “personal healthcare robot” designed to help people. Baymax does more than just help take care of Hiro’s health, he also becomes Hiro’s best friend.

Hiro discovers that a masked man has stole his tiny robot idea and is using them for evil, not for good. Hiro needs to stop the masked man before it’s too late. But he can’t do it alone. He needs the help of Baymax and his new friends Wasabi, GoGo, Honey Lemon and Fred. Together they become Big Hero 6 and their quest is to save the city of San Fransokyo – and possibly the world – from the evil masked man.

Who is the man behind the mask? What dastardly deed does he have planned with Hiro’s micro robots? Can Big Hero 6 save the day before it’s too late? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Big Hero 6, now available on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD.

I loved this movie! Loved! Loved! Loved it! It was not what I thought it was at all. I was pleasantly surprised. I know my family is going to love it too. I cannot wait to watch it with them this weekend.

The characters are all very likable. Baymax is especially cute. Now I want a Baymax toy of my own. He’s adorable.

The movie had a lot of heart, action, adventure, mystery and comedy. It was a great mix of all these things – and in a family friendly way too. I think even young children will enjoy this film very much.

The animation is spectacular too! The streets of San Fransokyo look realistic. It’s hard to believe it’s entirely animated.

There are some sad parts too, so keep the tissues handy just in case (tears welled up in my eyes).

There are several bonus features on the Blu-ray copy of the film.

  • Theatrical Short: Feast – This cute animated short is about a little dog with a big appetite. I believe this also won an Oscar at the Academy Awards for Animated Short.
  • The Origin of Big Hero 6: Hiro’s Journey – Join actress Jamie Chung for a behind the scenes look at Big Hero 6 and how the film came to life including creating the environment, Baymax and more.
  • Big Animator 6: The Characters Behind the Characters - The animators of the film discuss their inspiration and influences behind creating the characters in the film.
  • Deleted Scenes with Introductions by Directors Don Hall & Chris Williams.
  • Big Hero 6 Theatrical Trailer

And other bonus features.
