Beat the heat with a Nano Ice Cool Collar

It’s summer time. That means a lot of barbecues, trips to the beach and lounging pool side enjoying the lazy days of summer.

Summer also means heat, humidity and a lot of sunshine.

I don’t “do” sun. I burn easily. Even with layers upon layers of sunscreen I always turn lobster red in a matter of minutes being out in the sun.

I am also not a fan of heat and humidity. I find the summer months to be most uncomfortable. Due to the high cost of electricity (at least where we live) cranking the AC 24/7 is not an option.

We have fans (several) but they don’t always do a great job of cooling you off. Sometimes I think all they manage to do is blow the hot air around, not cool it off.

I have tried so many other ways to cool off from taking cold showers in the middle of the night (I can’t sleep when it’s too warm) to wrapping ice cubes in washcloths to apply to my skin, drinking a lot of ice cold water and eve spritzing water on my skin. Nothing truly works that way. Water evaporates quickly when it’s hot and ice melts.

There is a new product on the market that might just change the way you cool off.

Introducing the Nano Ice Cool Collar.

The Nano Ice Cool Collar is a cooling agent that you wear like a necklace. It’s made out of large spheres filled with a non-toxic, organic fluid. When this special liquid freezes it’s crystals interlock in a more efficient way than water, making it stay colder a lot longer.

Because the spheres only touch your skin in a small area the frozen fluid inside takes longer to melt keeping you cooler longer – up to 3 hours.

The Cool Collar is worn around your neck like a necklace. It’s a bit unique looking. It looks like a piece of costume jewelry your crazy aunt would wear. That’s OK. I’m sure in due time designs and styles for the Cool Collar will change to suit consumers tastes.

The reason why the Cool Collar is worn around your neck and not placed elsewhere on your body is because the neck is an ideal spot for regulating temperature because it cools the blood in the arteries before reaching the brain.

As the body part that most regulates body temperature, the neck is the ideal spot to cool down for optimal comfort.

I received a Nano Ice Cool Collar to try out for myself. Mine is a prototype and not the one that will be available for purchase. Mine has an elastic closure and the Cool Collars available for purchase will have a magnetic closure so you can place it around your neck and not go over the head.

I’ve worn my Cool Collar a few times. In fact I’m wearing it right now as I write this because it’s a bit warm right now and I’m trying to avoid putting on the AC so early in the morning.

The Cool Collar is a little odd looking, but it’s comfortable to wear.

Initially your skin really feels the cold against it when you first put it on. After a few minutes you don’t notice the cold on your skin as much.

It does seem to cool me off. It doesn’t happen instantly but after a few minutes of wearing the Cool Collar you do notice a difference.

I sometimes find my self taking it off and pressing it against my face and forehead for extra cooling relief, then I put it back on my neck.

It takes a few hours to freeze so be prepared to pop it in your freezer for 2-3 hours before you use it.

I have not worn the Cool Collar yet for more than an hour (I’ve been on the go-go-go these past few weeks with end of school stuff, senior prom and high school graduation). For all the time I have worn it it’s stayed very cold for the entire time.

Even when you take it off your skin is still cool so the cooling effect lasts a bit longer.

I keep the Nano Ice Cool Collar in a large ziplock bag in the freezer so that it doesn’t touch any meat or take on any freezer smells.

This could also double as an ice pack for bumps, bruises and burns.

Nano Ice Cool Collar can be used and enjoyed by men, women and children.

The people behind Nano Ice Cool Collar are also thinking about their community. They will be providing employment to those in need. They have partnered with the Homeless Veteran’s Association in South Boston as well as Goodwill to ensure that their product is crafted locally, providing jobs for people who are unemployed.

In addition, the people behind Nano Ice will donate a Cool Collar for every 10 sold to aid workers abroad to help keep them cool in hot, harsh environments.

Currently there is a Kickstarter campaign for the Cool Collar. Their goal is $15,000 to aid in production. Their campaign kicked off yesterday (June 25th) and already they have almost half of the funding needed for this project. Clearly there are many people who want the Cool Collar to be available for purchase.

I think their might be a Cool Bracelet in the works too. I’m curious about that one.

If you are unfamiliar with Kickstarter its a way that many companies and products find funding. People like you and I donate funds and in return we get special perks. Depending on the company the perks can range from free products to much more. With the Nano Ice Cool Collar campaign their perks include free Cool Collars, a Cool Bracelet, T-shirts, mugs and more.

To learn more about Nano Ice Cool Collar visit their Kickstarter campaign. You can also visit Nano-Ice.com. You can also check them out on Facebook.

What do you think about the Nano Ice Cool Collar? Does it seem like something you would like to have? How do you find ways to beat the heat during the hot summer months?
