Whose YOUR hero? Find out how you can win an amazing prize when you #ShareYourHero

What makes someone a hero? The dictionary defines a hero as;

A person, typically a man, who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities.

I think most people consider someone a hero when they commit some amazing act of courage, like a fireman who braves a flaming home to rescue an elderly person or anyone in the military who put their lives in danger every day to protect our freedom.

These people ARE heroes, and rightfully so. But there are other people in our lives that can also be seen as a hero. Maybe they might not be considered a hero to the rest of the world, but to you they are truly a hero.

I’ll give you a great example – my cousin. She was a teenage mother. She struggled and worked hard to take care of her children. She didn’t ask for hand outs or pity. She eventually raised three beautiful, healthy and wonderful daughters. Sadly one of her daughters was also a teen mom. She was not like her mom and couldn’t handle raising her children so my cousin stepped up and took in her two grandson – one of which has health issues – and is now raising them as her own (she officially adopted them). She’s still a single mom and she works just as hard as she ever did to provide for her grandson’s and afford them a wonderful life full of hope and opportunities. She doesn’t let her situation bring her down. She’s a fighter. She always has been. To me she’s a hero. She could have let her situation get the best of her but she didn’t. I don’t think I could have kept it together if I was in that situation. I’m not as strong as she is.

Sometimes it’s the little things that people do day after day without complaining or seeking recognition that make them a hero.

My father and I when he came home from the military being stationed abroad.

I consider my father a hero. He also served in the Army during Vietnam. I consider him a hero because he’s always there for us 24/7 and is happy to help out whenever he can. He also cares for my step-mother 24/7. She has a severe case of Lymes Disease (it’s another disease that stems from Lyme) as well as Parkinson’s Disease. She also requires a hearing aid because she is deaf. He takes her to numerous doctor’s appointments each week and makes sure that she takes her medications on time every single day (she takes upwards of 60 medications and supplements EVERY DAY). He helps her do things she can’t do on her own (stand, sit, bathe, use the restroom…). He stays up with her at night when she can’t sleep. He also takes her (and attends) numerous group meetings for people who are deaf and people who are dealing with her same health issues. He’s dedicated his life to her and never, ever utters a compliant or even takes a day off. To me that is a hero.

I consider my husband my hero too. He does so much for our family and always puts his needs and wants before the rest of us. My husband will wear shoes with holes in them just to make sure our kids have decent shoes, food in their tummies and a roof over their heads.

I know my husband wants things (a new television – ours is on it’s way out), a new dishwasher (ours is broken – it leaks), DVDs, songs from iTunes and much more. But he won’t spend a dime on anything. He spends his money on us to make sure we have what we need in life. He even stopped taking web design classes so that I could get a new (used) car. I wish there as some way I could help him to take up the classes again or get him at least one want from his life. Sadly the lottery hasn’t picked winning numbers for me yet.

Have you heard about the #ShareYourHero campaign from Mrs. Fields?

Mrs. Fields launched its #ShareYourHero campaign, introducing two new flavors to try – Butter Pecan Praline and Dark Chocolate Oatmeal. In addition the brand is searching for America’s hometown heroes to appear on future boxes of Mrs. Fields cookies through their #ShareYourHero contest. Mrs. Fields is giving away a year’s supply of cookies for you and your hero and have your hero’s picture on the next cookie box.

As a proud supporter of the USO, Mrs. Fields is also donating 25,000 cookies to our heroes in uniform.

Talk about an awesome prize! A year supply of cookies is wonderful but having your hero’s photo printed on a box of cookies – now that is AWESOME!

Mrs. Fields sent me a few packages of their yummy cookies to share with my hero. My father wasn’t too keen on having his photo shared on my blog, so I don’t have photos of him with the cookies, but I do have ones with my husband and the Mrs. Fields cookie – complete with a sticker where you can dedicate the cookie to your hero.

My safety reasons I covered up my husband’s name. I don’t mention personal information like that on my blog.

Mrs. Fields would love for you to share your hero’s story at MrsFieldsMoments.com. This is how you enter the contest. By entering you’ll also receive a FREE cookie.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Contest is open to legal residents of the forty-eight (48 excluding Alaska and Hawaii) states of the United States and the District of Columbia 18 years and older.
