The James 2 Dreamer

I am a dreamer.

And dreamers get a bad rap sometimes because we are thought to be lazy and passive with our heads in the clouds.

But there are two kinds of dreamers.

There is the kind that is lazy and passive. They do live with their heads in the clouds – always dreaming up ideas but never taking the first step to accomplish them. They give up easily at the first obstacle and make excuses for what can only be termed as a lack of ambition and the maturity to see a tough job through to the end.

And this is the personality most people tend to attribute to a dreamer.

But there is a second kind of dreamer.

The one who not only carries a dream in his heart, but who takes that dream and makes it a reality.

James talks about this kind of person when he says:

“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him…Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works…But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead…Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect?”

The world has been turned upside down by these ambitious dreamers: from Thomas Edison to Martin Luther King Jr.; from Steve Jobs to Henry Ford.

From George Muller to Amy Charmichael. From Mary Slessor to Jonathan and Rosalind Goforth.

Men and women who had both secular and spiritual ambition.

Do you have a dream?

“But my dream isn’t a spiritual dream!”, you may say?

But my reply to you is: Does Jesus live in your heart? Does He not sanctify all that we do.

Paul urged us that no matter what we do: whether it is reading our Bibles or cleaning our homes; whether attending a prayer meeting or advancing our career – that we do it all to the glory of God.

James 2 Dreamers know that whether our dreams include events inside or outside the church, they will be spiritual because wherever our feet go, they carry the gospel.
What is your dream?

Have you given feet to your dream?

Has the enemy whispered in your ear: “You could never do that. You always fail at what you do.”

Remember that the halls of fame are filled with failures….and those who succeeded despite their failures. The James 2 Dreamer fails and gets up again. He refuses to believe that he can’t succeed in the end. He refuses to allow his failures to keep him down.

But lastly, the James 2 Dreamer rejects the model of modern success. He remembers that the annals of history are lined with heroes whose song has never been sung on earth, whose names have never been written in a history book, and whose work has never been regaled and praised. But their reward in heaven is great, the treasures they have accrued are immeasurable and praise from our Father is far grander than any praise we could ever receive here on earth.

As we close out 2013, my challenge to you is to become a James 2 Dreamer in 2014.

Reject passivity and embrace ambition.

Refuse to be discouraged and decide to win.

Rejoice in your failures and remember where true success lies.
