Why Is Country Music So Taboo

Some things in life always puzzle me and I sometimes find myself sitting there wondering why it puzzled me, there's always one subject that comes out, which is 'country music'.
I'm a bigger lover of this genre of music I don't listen to anything but country it's something I really enjoy and something I really relate to.

But really puzzles me is why is it so taboo in today's music industry we have so many different genres of music and everyone has their likes and dislikes. If I ever talk to someone and they ask me 'what music do you listen to?' I give them my answer then straight away I'm weird or I'm an alien. I understand that country music isn't big over here like it is in America but it's like people here in England associate country with hill billies, old people or tractors. Believe it or not I once had someone say to me you don't drive a tractor so why do you like that music as you can imagine I don't speak to him any more ;).

It's very hard to come across someone in England that is a lover of country but when I do I lap it up. I don't even know where I wanted to go with this post but I just don't understand why people think this genre is scary or weird.

What are you thoughts, are you one of the people that think it's weird? Are you a country music lover if so can we be best friends? Or am I just unlucky with the people I talk to and everyone you know doesn't think it's weird?
