Do you have a $55K hip?

Today was my original scheduled surgery date. It also marks 3 weeks post op so I thought I’d do a little update on how things are going.

Moving the surgery date up was the best idea ever. Ever.

Overall I’m feeling great! Sometimes I even forget I had surgery, but then I’ll turn my left foot slightly to the left and am quickly brought back to reality.

My post op instructions for weeks 2-4 said to progress to full weight bearing, using a crutch until comfortable walking without. Also walk 15 minutes a day, adding 5 minutes as comfortable. We all know the crutches made it a whopping, 2 steps and were tossed aside. I can now almost walk normal, without doing the grandma shuffle.

I have added more time riding the bike and even tried the elliptical the other day. Moving feels so dang good. I’ve been pretty good about following the ‘if it hurts, don’t do it’ rule very closely. Well minus that day I did some squatting while cleaning. That just sounds wrong…

Moving on, I have stayed below my pain threshold but I worry a little if I’m under doing it at times. Insert sitting to much watching Gilmore Girls stuffing my face with pretzels & oranges.

Pretty sure I set a new patience PR. For the first time, yesterday I felt like pushing it at the gym by riding the bike and wanting to try out the pool. Thankfully between common sense and the fact that I left my swimsuit at home I convinced myself to ride the bike 5 minutes longer & take my speed up a notch. 25 minutes & 5 miles later it went really well.

No pain, just a little brief soreness after. Still feeling good, I walked to the farmers market. Why does going to the farmers market make me feel like my life is put together? Hey, a girl can dream.

Anyway not wanting to push it too much, I made the trip short and caught this incredible sunset on the way home. I had to stop to take it all in.

Don’t worry, I won’t tell you what our high was yesterday.

I have a follow up with my surgeon this week and can’t wait to give him a high 5!!

I know everyone is different, so take this with a grain of sea salt, but migraines are WAY more painful than hip arthroscopic surgery & recovery. Maybe it has to do with my surgeon being one of the best (he invented the surgery he did on me), age or whatnot, but I feel like I just sailed right through this. Lets see how recovery continues to go. That could be a different story.

Just snapped this pic of the incisions today. Technology blows my mind.

Oh because this blonde didn’t answer a question on the last update post...did running cause hip impingement?….here is the answer:

Yes and no. Typical chick answer, right? It was partly due to crappy genetics (thanks ma) and the fact that I have been active my whole life. I took dance & skating lessons as soon as I learned to walk, played all kinds of sports in school and now running as an adult. I can’t even hold a legit face writing ‘adult’. #nevergrowingup

Anyway there were a lot of factors, some stars aligned that gave me this. Juuuust peachy. Oh well, it’s a price I am willing to pay to be able to do things I love. I guess that “price” now includes a $55K new & improved grandma hip.

And yes, there have been tons of hip/hipster/grandma/bitches get stitches/I busted that hip up jokes from the peanut gallery. Laugh all you want cowboy, because hips don’t come in sets which now makes Lululemon look very inexpensive.
