Lucky Wind Sock - A St Patrick's Day Kid Craft

I love me a good kid craft and this simple lucky wind sock is perfect for St. Patrick's Day. With little more than paint, paper, and string; you can make one too. Who knows, it might even bring you a pot of gold!

The other day Jude and I were feeling rather gloomy, so I suggested we paint rainbows. We busted out the watercolors and got to work. It's hard to pout while making rainbows. And since it's March, the rainbows led to clovers and leprechauns and pots of gold. Our painting session was cut a bit short due to Jude's frustration over his leprechaun not being in correct proportion and my realization that dinner was going to be late (darn daylight savings), but the exercise was fun nonetheless. I couldn't just let our hard work languish in a pile on the kitchen table so we took a few of the pieces and made this lucky wind sock.

To Make a Lucky Wind Sock You'll Need

• Watercolor (or other heavy weight) paper
• Paints (preferable watercolors)
• String (or ribbon or yarn)
• Hole punch
• Scissors
• Tape

How To Make a Watercolor Wind Sock

1. First paint rainbows and clovers. You will need one full sheet for the top of the sock and another page of small clovers or gold coins or little rainbows for the ends of the streamers.
2. Once your creations are dry roll your full page into a cylinder and secure with tape or glue.
3. Cut out your small shapes, you will want about six.
4. Punch six holes evenly along the bottom of your cylinder and tie a length of string through each Trim your strings so that they are about even.
5. Tape your clovers to the bottoms of the strings.
6. Create a hanger by punching two holes across from each other on the top of your cylinder. Then thread a length of string through the holes and tie it in the center.
7. Hang your wind sock and hope it leads a leprechaun to your house on St Paddy's!
