Sunday Funday – Stud Work

Negative space and geometric manicures are cool, but studs will always have a special place in my heart and on my nails. It’s deceptively easy to create and the result is always impressive. At the moment, I particularly love how studs look against tamed metallics. Whether it’s just one tiny stud at the base of your nail or full-on studded nail art extravaganza, there is something magical about the combination of the diffuse finish of mattified metallic polish and tough gloss of real metal studs.

To answer one of the most frequently asked questions (when people see my studded nails), “How do you keep those things on your nails? Do they just fall off? no, they don’t. Studded manicures are as long lasting as any other nail design.

To get these matte studded nails, you’ll need to use nail glue to attach the studs. First, paint your nails, add 1-2 coats of a matte top coat, wait till it’s dry and then attach the studs with nail glue.

For any other look, just use your usual top coat. Add a top coat as usual and immediately attach the studs so they attach to the wet top coat. Add another layer of a top coat to secure the studs.

If you need more info about working with studs, please refer to this ‘Studded Nails’ tutorial from our ’30 Easy Nail Designs’ book.

Used: Sea Siren Bronzed Siren and Essie Matte About You top coat.

So what about you guys? Do you wear studded nails often?
