A Few New Products

First, Happy Cinco de Mayo! Second, let me tell you about a handful of new products! On Tuesday night I took a cab straight from work to a press event. Normally I would’ve walked to subway, taken it uptown, and walk some more, but after I received an email that said there would only be gift bags for the first 100 members of the press, I decided a cab was necessary. I’m really glad I chose to spend that eight dollars because that goodie bag was filled with so many interesting products from brands I had never heard of.

Over two hours and with the help of two glasses of champagne I walked through the expo like event and spoke with the founders and reps more than twenty health and beauty brands. Some where interesting, some were extremely off-brand for Sparkles and Shoes (like advanced hearing aids), but most I walked away from the table having learned something. I’ve taken a week to try out the majority of the products I got at this event and I wanted to share with you my favorites.

Vitamins, they are good for you, you should take them, and they’re expensive. That’s about sums it up. I grew up in a house where they were very encouraged and but one of the biggest things I have had issues with over the last 20 years is the taste. I know they’re only in your mouth for a few seconds but that lingering taste, it really gets me and is really off-putting.

This bothers me so much so that when I met the doctor behind the brand Youtheory the first question I asked was do your supplements have a taste and he answered no unless you like the tablet. I don’t plan on doing that anytime soon and have tried all of their sample packs but the Youtheory Revive is perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up. I have the bottle at my desk and this past week I reached for two instead of another cup of coffee.

I’ve always been really dubious of stick on nails probably because of that one time in my childhood we all tried them on and they fell off immediately. What changed my mind was on Tuesday night was a girl I was speaking to over the food and when I complimented her manicure and she told me she had just had them done the Kiss booth. I did not have time to wait in line to get my own set applied, but I spoke with the brand reps and they gave me a few pairs to take home.

The next day my manicure chipped and I decided instead of repainting them I would try the nails. It actually took me longer to pick out the sizes for each finger than it did for me to put them on. This photo is from the end of day four and they looked just as day one Before I tell you to run out and buy these Kiss imPRESS manicure sets though I am interested to see how long they will last and if they damage my nails when I take them off – stay tuned!

And when I needed to take a break, the Jolen team had make up artists doing statement lips. Too bad I only Snapchatted my selfie and did not save it – the artist created a very dramatic deep red with a well defined cupids bow. It was really pretty and helped me turn down some very delicious but very caloric looking desserts.

The company Älsa Energy took the cake for the most innovative set up at the event, they had taste tests of the their three flavors powder that provide a healthy energy lift, as they describe it, without the jolt or crash of the typical energy drink. But to really get a sense of their Pomegranate Blueberry Älsa they not only provided a recipe card but all of the ingredients to make a smoothie. The next morning I made it for breakfast and it was quite delicious but I prefer their three citrus flavor.

And finally, chocolate. When I stopped by the Adora table I just saw three women eating chocolate and joined in – the Adora Calcium supplements were quite tasty. I have tried a number of sweet, flavored supplements in the past but these are the first that taste exactly like candy with no hint at all of the good-for you additives. As a dark chocolate lover I picked that over the milk!

As a disclaimer I was not paid to write about any of these products or endorse them specifically, I simply received samples for review purposes. These four products really stood out and if I liked them, I think you might too!

Have you heard of any of these new products?
