Makeup and Prosecco

Summer events in New York City are my absolutely favorite and I was lucky enough to attend two great ones this week. On Tuesday evening I went to a sprawling rooftop complete with a pink carpet to celebrate the launch of the new beautyblender. You are probably familiar with the cult, egg-shaped beauty favorite to help with all types of makeup application. Well, the brand has come out with a new product, the bodyblender.

The bodyblender is black, three times the size of the original one, and is a flat egg shape designed to fit in the palm of your hand. As it is named, this is for your body instead of your face and is recommended for self-tanning lotions, bronzers, body contouring, highlighting, and sculpting. (Yeah, those last three? Not something I have ever done) The bodyblender is available for $28.00 from Sephora. I have to tell you though, even with the tacos and rose Chandon, my favorite part of the evening was the sunset.

Everyone who was in New York City on Tuesday night can attest we had one of our worst storms in months, complete with hail, but at the end of the storm the sky turned the most brilliant orange!

If you have been around Sparkles and Shoes a while you will know I love bubbly and last night I attended a mixology event hosted by La Marca Prosecco. My friend Lindsay (who got married in September) and I enjoyed sipping Prosecco while watching cocktail-making demonstrations and indulging in the occasional passed hors d’oeuvre. Why is it that that just when I fully commit to my fitness journey I attend an event with unlimited bubbly and a tremendous amount of delicious looking passed treats?

The soirée was held at 287 Gallery in the heart of Chelsea’s Fine Arts District and I was pleasantly surprised with the back garden. As we were so far over on the West Side as we sipped Prosecco out of adorable striped straws people from the High Line were looking down on us, no doubt guessing what all of the fun was about. I do have to thank Gilt City for inviting me because the event was wonderful. If you know me you know I absolutely detest gin, every sip reminds me of Christmas trees, but Carlos Abeyta of Beauty and Essex convinced me otherwise with his French 171 cocktail; Prosecco, amaro, gin, lemon, pink peppercorn syrup and bitters.

And I loved taking home a cocktail shaker, a mini bottle of bubbly, and something I do not have, a champagne bottle stopper, perfect for those evenings where you don’t quite finish the bottle. In case you need something like it, Gilt is launching La Marca inspired barware this Saturday at noon. And yes, my shoes had to make it in the photo because they were too cute not to be included

Have you been to any fun events recently?
