Behind The Scenes

(Picture From Unknown Source)
If you've been following me for a little while you would have noticed that this blog, and my brand Hopeless, has had a few incarnations and changes of style. This has very much been a reflection of my personal journey and struggles through building a brand from scratch. Recently my focus has been very much on strategy and planning, giving myself structure and scheduling tasks, in order to be as productive as possible. I have been feeling pretty good about everything and moving forward with all of this structure, but have been feeling like something has been missing from the blog. Today I think I finally figured that out - I post a lot of pictures and inspiration, but seem to have lost my voice. This realisation was very much the result of a brilliant post over at The Lingerie Addict about Victoria's Secret and some of the issues surrounding the company, especially in regards to race and the trivialising and fetishising of certain cultures. Also the still growing comments section, which challenged me to put into words my feelings about certain areas of the fashion industry. I love being challenged, it is imperative for growth, and I hope the inclusion of a weekly vehicle to do that will encourage my readers to do the same. I hope to share what I have been challenged by recently or in the past, how I have overcome it, answer questions, or just share experiences.
I will leave you with a link to a collection of TED talks called 'Work Smarter'. I watched these earlier in the week and have scribbled down pages of notes and points to think about, but there is one sentence pretty much on repeat in my head - 'People don't buy what you do, they buy why you do it.' - Simon Sinek 2009.
