Patriotic Contact Paper Play

Since the weather has been so nice and we’re always outside, it’s been a while since we’ve broken out our contact paper for a fun interactive craft play session. With July 4th right around the corner, an indoor patriotic craft activity was in order!

This one came together quickly with just a few minutes spent digging through my stash of paper scraps. While she was napping, I set up an “invitation to play” station using red and white paper strips, punched out blue stars, the left over scraps from the star punch outs and a sticky wall made of Con-Tact Paper

and painter’s tape.

She woke up, saw the station and knew exactly what to do. This was, of course, due to her many past experiences this type of contact paper play, like the one we recently did with a Disney theme and the lucky St. Patrick’s Day version.

Even though she’s done this activity before, with her advancing skills, she always surprises me with what she tries next. This time she was all about arranging the pieces (who knew stripes were supposed to go up and down on the flag) but also loved to take the pieces off and rearrange them in a new spot.

That’s one of the great things about this material, it allows for some movement, especially when using cardstock scraps like we did. I’m not sure if we’d have the same experience if we used thin construction paper.

So have you tried Contact Paper Play yet? I’d love to see your versions and include them in my Reader’s Feature! Email me or tag me on social!
