Don R: Dutroux in the Streets

In Brussels propaganda pictures against the liberation of child abuser Marc Dutroux by Don R popped up. The artist has been openly protesting since 2011 against this criminal by spraying or pasting his portrait in the streets to shock people and provoque their hate.

People only think about social injustice when they read about it in the media. But the next day when there’s nothing about Marc Dutroux in the news, no-one thinks about his crimes and the chance he would set free this year. There was only some minor protesting.

That’s why Don R thought it is crucial to take it to the streets himself. Everyone who knows who the portrayed person is, isn’t amused by looking at these pop-art paste ups. It should be interpreted as an invocation to change the laws in Belgium. The fact that Dutroux’ ex-wife Michelle Martin was liberated is a clear sign that there’s something wrong with the criminal laws nowadays.
