If anyone is planning on going to the North of Ireland, he or she would in a flash think about its famous cities, coastal towns and perhaps even venturing off to see the filming locations of the popular TV show Game of Thrones. A few folks know about the city of Armagh, a place I was lucky enough to visit. Armagh is a peaceful, quaint, city northeast of Ireland that features two outstandingly beautiful cathedrals built on hills. Yes, it’s true. Here in Armagh is where you’ll find the original church that St. Patrick built. Although the Church of England is currently running it, its neighboring hill stands the current St. Patrick’s Cathedral {Roman Catholic} that features panoramic views of the city of Armagh. The interior of the cathedral highlighted unique and outstanding Celtic details and Neo-Gothic architecture making it one of the most beautiful cathedrals I have ever visited. Armagh fits the description of what a quintessential ecclesiastical town should look like. It blazes with appeal like a fine European city with picturesque streets and lovely winding roads leading up to a magnificent center cathedral. I can imagine that the cathedral must be prominent and visible enough to be seen on every street and alley of Armagh. Atop the hill where St. Patrick’s Cathedral sits, you’ll see the most sublime view of the beauty of the Irish countryside. I didn’t plan on going for a pilgrimage out here but I’m so glad I wandered into this holy place. Because of its placidity and calmness, there is no doubt Armagh is one of my favorite places in the North of Ireland. If you are captivated with areas that offer tranquility mingled with an enchanting and alluring ambience, Armagh is without fail that place that will consistently charm and beguile you. The beauty and simplicity of the town is enough to make a gorgeous impression and is welcoming to those of all faiths or none. As the Irish would say, “Céad Míle Fáilte {‘One Hundred Thousand Welcome’}!”
