Orange Jello Wedges

Hi friends! It’s Katie from Made to be a Momma. I always love popping in over at Mandy’s site. Today I am really excited to share with you a treat that my kids just LOVED. My oldest son Jacob tends to be extremely picky when it comes to food. I wasn’t even sure how he would feel about jello being inside of an orange but he took one bite and I couldn’t get him to stop eating it. The ingredients of this jello are simple and actually pretty healthy. Unlike boxed jello thats filled with sugar, I decided to make my own homemade version with unflavored gelatin and fresh squeezed orange juice and a bit of bottled all natural orange juice like Natalies.

Ingredients:

1 package unflavored gelatin, I used the Knox Brand

3 cups fresh fruit juice or bottle juice

1 cups cold water

2- 4 oranges

First you will need to slice your orange in half, squeeze out the fresh juice and set aside. Remove the insides and discard. Place the orange halves in a cupcake tin, this will keep your orange half upright in the fridge when cooling the jello.

Follow the directions of your unflavored gelatin box if different, but basically you will pour the unflavored gelatin into one cup of cold water. Allow to set for 5 minutes. Boil the fresh juice that you were able to get from your oranges. You will need to add bottled orange juice so that the total amount of juice that you are boiling is 3 cups. It will vary depending on how juicing your oranges are. Add the boiling fruit juice to the gelatin mixture and whisk until gelatin has dissolved. Pour into orange halves.

I ended up having extras and just poured it into a bowl. Place filled orange halves in the refrigerator until jello has set, at least 3-4 hours. Once your Jello has set you can either keep the jello in the bowls like my kids ate them or cut the orange into wedges. Feel free to swap out the orange juice for fresh strawberries or raspberries to change the colors and flavors. This is such a fun snack that is perfect for the spring and summer season that are coming soon!
