Zoya Serenity Swatches & Review

Like a tulip, Zoya Serenity from the Island Fun Collection is simple, but nonetheless very beautiful!

This bold purple defies seasons and is the type that I can picture nailphiles of all ages sporting because it’s fun and adds the necessary dash of colour to the fingertips like savoury seasoning in a favourite recipe.

Truth be told, years ago, I didn’t go gaga over too many cremes compared to flashy glitters and shimmers.

As I’m getting older (and happily so!), I’m learning to appreciate the beauty in simplicity, as I feel like the world is already so crowded with loud voices that are competing to be heard. In the end, they can get muffled and distract from what’s really important.

Sometimes the softest whisper and humility can gain the most attention.

While Zoya Serenity isn’t the loudest nail polish with the craziest finish, I enjoyed wearing it. It’s simple. It’s straight-forward. It’s still ‘my style’ because of the bold colour, yet the finish allows the hue to remain in the spotlight. (It’s like a supporting acting role.)

P.S. Remember to enter my worldwide giveaway for your chance to win the China Glaze Baby Beats Micro Mini Set! The clock is ticking, and the giveaway closes on Friday June 19, 2015 at 11:59 pm EDT.

Key Notes

Zoya Serenity Review

Colour

Serenity by Zoya is a medium purple that adds a beautiful punch of colour onto the nails. Yes, I can see it being used for a fun Easter manicure, but it has more ‘bite’ than a pastel purple, which makes it transcend a specific season for me.

Finish

The simple creme finish of Serenity by Zoya is straight-forward and gives it that ‘honest charm’ I appreciate in polishes and in people.

Since there are no big chunks of glitter, you can remove the polish without rubbing your fingers (or toes) raw and red.

Application & Formula

Pigmentation is on point with Serenity by Zoya! It was very opaque and creamy, and although the first coat covered well, I used two coats out of habit, and I achieved full coverage. You shouldn’t need more than two coats.

It has a very smooth formulation, so you’re not struggling to get the polish even. This is the kind of top-notch formula that I’ve come to expect from Zoya nail polishes. (They have some of the best formulas in the industry!)

Big-5-Free

If you’re looking for healthier nail-polish options, Zoya nail polish is a good choice, as their formulas are free of Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, Camphor, and DBP.

Animal-Friendliness

It also feels great supporting a company that is animal-friendly and vegan-friendly.

Pros

  • Pretty purple
  • Pigmented formula
  • Requires only 2 coats for full opacity
  • Smooth, creamy finish
  • No Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin, Toluene, Camphor, or DBP
  • Animal-friendly
  • Vegan-friendly

Cons

  • Not the craziest or most unique colour (but not every shade needs to be loud. There’s beauty in simplicity.)
  • Zoya can be a little tricky to purchase if you don’t want to shop online

Final Verdict: 8/10

Although there’s nothing crazy going on with this polish, I appreciate how down-to-earth it is with its simple (yet flattering) colour and smooth, pigmented formulation. It is very versatile and can be used solo for a pretty manicure or in nail art easily.

If you’re looking for an easy-to-wear purple that’s a staple in any nailphile’s stash, this one’s a good choice. But, if you have hundreds (or thousands) of polishes already in your collection and you’re on a budget, it’s safe to pass on this.

Do you have a purple nail polish that you wear time and time again? If you could only bring 3 things to an island with you, what would they be? As you get older, do you find yourself appreciating more nail-polish finishes?
