After college, the possibility for the ‘perfect life’ seems more than obtainable, unfortunately we sometimes see it as a given. There’s a shared imagination of seeing yourself happy as an adult, with all your growing questions and heartaches figured and fixed. You see yourself happily answering a phone behind a mahogany desk, or directing an internal meeting with your hair slicked back in a topknot. The visions that we’ve created of adulthood for ourselves are beautiful.
And then three months into it, that happy vision goes to shit. Your first job completely sucks, the closest laundromat is seven blocks away only to shred your clothes and if there’s ever a question between sex with your old college boyfriend or enjoying a Blue Bunny, the Blue Bunny always wins.
But beyond the lost expectations is we have found that the hunt for life actually begins. Giving up the search for ‘perfection’ is phase one, phase two is realizing that slowing down the aging process isn’t such a bad idea after all.
