Our Home Office

Grant and I moved into our condo in July of last year. One of the first big projects we tackled was adding built in shelves to the second bedroom. I showed Grant these corner shelves from A Beautiful Mess and he built them over the course of a weekend. We're fortunate to be on the top floor of our building which means we have 9ft ceilings. The extra space goes a long way when it comes to storage. The desk is just two Ikea kitchen cabinets with a large piece of MDF on top and two Ikea desk legs in the middle for support. The chairs are both thrift store finds.

Although carpet is not my favourite flooring we are stuck with it. Our condo rules dictate that there must be carpet in the bedrooms for units not on the ground floor. We actually tried to put an area rug down put for the life of me I could not get it to stay in place. We have yet to tackle painting any of the walls in the condo. We didn't get to choose the paint colours and I am not a fan of beige. It wouldn't be so bad if the builders hadn't painted the baseboards, trim, and doors the same colour. Since this room will one day likely be our nursery I think we'll hold off on painting it until then.

The bookshelves are one of my favourite things in our home. They hold our (pared down) book collection, my vintage camera collection, all of my Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Bobbsey Twins books, and little pieces of memorabilia. The model cars were my Grandfather's and it's nice to have a little reminder of him whenever I'm working in the office.

Grant and I are also somewhat avid comic book readers. We seem to go through waves where we binge on books from the library. I have a collection of all of the post-tv Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics and have managed to amass the entire Fables collection. I've been a Buffy fan since I was 10 years old so the love runs deep there. Grant's collection is mostly Marvel-based since that's what he grew up reading.

We have a nice wee spot to display our Quiach from our wedding. Grant's dad brought it all the way from Scotland for us.

We also have our Mrs & Mr signs hanging on our respective sides the desk. They were a wedding gift from Grant's mum.

I recently hung all of my guitars in a corner of the office. I haven't taken lessons in years but I obviously have no excuse not to learn now. The chair was a $20 thrift score, and the blanket and magazine stand were garage sale finds.

The filing cabinet is a DIY I completed a few weeks ago. You can read all about it here.

Another memento from our wedding are the letters hanging above the closet. They were displayed at our table during our wedding reception. You can see the photos from the ceremony, the reception, and our wedding portraits by clicking on the respective links. The ceiling light is another DIY and you see the step-by-step transformation here.

I'm so happy to have a place at home where I can work. The space is usually messier than it is in these photos since I take all of my photos for the blog in here but it still feels a bit like a retreat. I love how everything came together and that there is a vintage feel throughout the room. If you have any questions about where things are from or anything else about the room please leave me a comment below!
